Was searching the net for octane boosting and ran across this. Just wondering if anyone has done this. I know that Toluene is use in unleaded fuel to increase the octane but it appears that you can put 2 gallons of Toluene in a tank of 93 octane unleaded you could raise it to around 95 - 96 octane fuel.......
Formula #1 - Toluene
R+M/2.........114
Cost...........$2.50/gal
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.2 Octane
20%...........96.4 Octane
30%...........98.6 Octane
Notes: Common ingredient in Octane Boosters in a can. 12-16 ounces will only raise octane 2-3 *points*, i.e. from 92 to 92.3. Often costs $3-5 for 12-16 ounces, when it can be purchased for less than $3/gal at chemical supply houses or paint stores.
Torco is still the best way of boosting Octane. Cheaper than pump Racing Fuel and you can add it only when you need it. A 32 oz can will bring 10 gallons of 91 Octane to 102 Octane.
P.S.; Any Octane booster is a waste of $$ unless you have the engine set up for increased compression and/or advanced timing.

If you want to believe Torco...
In the real world, you'll get 92 octane or maybe 93 octane but no better than that. Torco is better than most octane boosters but it isn't a miracle worker.

"Other Octane boosters" claim points of octane increase when they mean tenths of a point, Torco delivers as advertized. The chart I posted above is very close to right. Torco really does add 8-10 Octane points when mixed as directed.
Real world experience with Torco tells me that their claims aren't that far off. I had an SRT4 with Dodges' performance pack (Stage 2 + Toys)that required 100 Octane. With Torco added at their recommended rate I could dyno 270HP, 300 torque. Without the Torco the timing was pulled to the point I could only get 235 HP before I could feel the timing pulled and the loss of power.

If it's that good, there should be plenty of independent tests proving it...link us up with just one. We had this discussion with a Torco dealer who's a forum member in a thread a few years ago and he couldn't prove it either. There was more proof of 2-3 octane numbers and zero proof of 8-10 octane numbers. We all agreed it was only 2-3 octane numbers. We also agreed it was probably the best octane booster on the market as far as boosting octane, there were some questions as to possible damage to the engine due to the high levels of MMT...there were some nasty pictures. Even the owner's manual warns against using octane boosters with high levels of MMT.
There is nothing you can add 32 ounces of to 10 gallons of 91 octane gas and raise the octane number to 100...not even if it has TEL and MMT in a 130 octane solution, just ain't happening. There is no magic potion. You can believe their hype if you want but please don't ask us to believe the BS.

"We also agreed it was only 2-3 octane numbers"? You stated that belief, not "we". I was part of that discussion also and remain convinced that Torco gives a MAJOR Octane inrease. You are the one claiming 2-3 points, those of us that use Torco know better.
"Even the Owners Manual warns against using octane boosters with high levels of MMT". And you do everything exactly as the owners manual tells you?
The SRT4 with the Stage 2 monitered knock and pulled timing at the first hint of pre-ignition. With Torco I ran 21-23 pounds boost peak with around 19 pounds steady on Torco, without Torco boost was 19# peak and 15-17 pounds steady. Part of the Stage 2 kit was an indicator light on the dash that showed when the increased boost/timing/fuel was active. When that light went out the boost/timing/fuel went back to stock. It felt like you hit the brakes when the Stage 2 kicked out. without Torco Stage 2 wouldn't activate and even with Torco it would kick out on hot days under load.
Maybe 8-10 points is a little high, I was using 93 Octane base and mixing 32 oz to 10 gallons of gas and the SRT4 Stage 2 "required" 100 Octane so worst case I got 7 points increase starting with 93 Octane.
Still a lot more than your claim of 2-3 Octane. Real life proof, it worked for me and thats better than any theory.
^^^ More BS and no proof. Send it out for an independent test with certification and let's see what happens. There are plenty of those tests online showing 2-3 octane numbers, that was not my claim. You being "convinced" does not constitute proof. Your "example" does not constitute proof either.

Given a choice between Internet "proof" and personal experience I'll take personal experience.

If it works for you, great. You have a good testimonial for Torco. However, proof is required when you start throwing numbers around. Facts by proclamation don't cut it here.

It worked for me for years. I'm not throwing numbers around, Torco is (on the internet!) and you are also. Where is your proof that Torco is only good for 95 Octane from 93 Octane on a 32OZ to 10 gallon ratio?
I at least offer personal experience instead of just an opinion.

Those are on the internet also, you should buy two of each!
You remember the thread we had, go look up the numbers from the different tests yourself. There was never more than a 2-3 octane number increase. Even the Torco dealer backed down, I don't know why you continue pressing a bad position.
BTW, your personal experience is an opinion too, you provided no proof of the octane increase. My opinion is at least backed up with independent tests and science. Once again, I'm glad it worked for you, just don't throw out BS numbers.

Instead of links to snake oil sales why don't you post links to the independent tests showing the "only 2-3 Octane points" you keep referring to?
The last link is from the discussion we had in '05. You'll note in post #17, the Torco dealer on this forum said 32 oz of Torco in 10 gal of 91 octane gives 96.5 octane. Of course if you keep reading, you'll see concessions of 2-3 octane numbers is reality. One of the problems with the blending chart you posted is the relationship of Torco to unleaded gasoline. It takes 16 oz to get a 4 octane increase, 32 oz to get an 11 octane increase, and 64 oz to get a 14 octane increase which represents an inverse parabolic relationship (bell curve)...add a ¼ to get 4, add another ¼ to get another 7, then add another ½ to get another 3. Torco uses MMT to increase octane and it works in an exponential relationship, the more you add, the less it raises octane...the middle data point does not fit an exponential curve. That alone is justification to call BS on the chart. In my search of octane booster threads, I noticed you are the only one who claims 10-11 octane number increase in the threads I pulled up.

Your intent must be to baffle with B.S. since only one of the links has anything to do with Torco. That link, the 3rd mentions jbsblownC5's statement of 32oz Torco in 18 gallons of 91 Octane to give 94 Octane, a 3point increase and 32 oz in 10 gallons to give 96.5 Octane, a 5.5 point gain. Even that test shows a 5.5 point gain instead of your repeated 2-3 point "proven" increase.
The second link never mentions Torco.
The first link also never mentions Torco, the only additive using MMT is mixed 12oz to 16 gallons, about 1/4 of Torco recommended strength.
Since you just continue to repeat unproven statements and post worthless links I'm going to quit responding to your posts. I have better things to spend my time on.

If you read the 3rd link in its entirety, you would've seen the 5.5 octane number increase was debunked. If you had any reasoning skills, you could've related the 1st and 2nd link to our discussion but you'll never see it as long as you have your head in the sand. I don't blame you for giving up...
Here's another worthless link for you showing several tests with the best improvement 2.8 octane numbers.
The original poster is right, the best you can expect from a can is 2-3 octane numbers just like we found in the thread from '05. Believe what you want but don't spout your beliefs as facts. Nowhere are there any independent tests confirming 10-11 octane number increase with Torco...total BS.
I do know Toluene is a blend component in premium fuel. It has an octane rating of over 100 usually 110-115. It is Usually blended with reformate and HF or sulfuric acid blend stock to make 91-93 octane premium. It is a very clean fuel low in metals and impurities.
My question is does using it and increasing octane make a difference on our computer controlled cars?
