Default Service Traction System problem

Need your help....have 05 C6 automatic.....The Service Traction System Message comes on when I accelerate too quickly and then my transmission starts shiting "hard"....clangs into gears! I have to pull over turn motor off and restart in 20 seconds....computer resets and car runs and shifts normally.....seems related to when the transmission shifts under a load it sets off this message....

Anyone had this problem?? Thanks for advice... Harleydave

It's just the bulit in "traction control system" thats being activated ---seems thoigh you are having an issue with some of it's components---Typically it's often a result of a faulty "wheel speed sensor" located at each wheel--They get wet fouled-wires fray or the pigtails become unplugged--
You should have codes stored on your ECM sometimes the check engine light comes on for this sometimes not---But it still should be stored in your ECM as a "history code"
Check all of your wheel speed sensors---Have ALL the codes cleared ( most auto parts stores will check and clear them all for FREE--I know Autozone does
See if the problem re-occurs--If not you're good---It it comes back report back on what to do next
PS: When accelerating quickly you have to question WHY the system is being activated at all anyway---The traction control warning should NOT appear at all if you press the TC button to "OFF"-----While the TC is on it would be normal for the TC to activate (during shifts) ------that indicates that your tires are breaking loose or spinning---Could just be your tires are getting bald and your traction is going away--
It's the ECM protecting the car--and saving your *** !!! TC is your friend on a wet slippery road--OR going around sharp corners at WOT and happen to hit a shift !!

thanks for your thoughts...The traction system is working Ok.....it's when I accelerate (without breaking the tires loose) but still under a load....it shows "Service Traction System" on my DIC....the transmission then starts shifting "Hard" and "clangs into gears" ...I have to pull off the road and restart car to reset computer...then I have normal transmission shifting again.

When the transmission starts acting up there will be a diagnostic code set and if what is affecting the transmission will interfere in proper operation of the Traction Control system you will get a Service Traction Control message on the DIC. Don't look at TC look to see what is wrong with the tranny. Restarting the car will reset codes so wait until you get the condition again and then go somewhere you can get the codes read before turning off the car. If you turn off the car you may still see history codes.

You can't do much troubleshooting without having the codes.

Thanks Bill...I made an appointment with Hendricks Chevrolet (Cary NC)on Monday...I can easily get the Service Traction System DIC message to appear and will leave the car on...for them to scan. I'll keep everyone posted with the "cure" in case other members run into this situation.

If anyone is interested...I did find the problem. It turned out to be a "bad" MAF sensor...the wrong air/fuel mixture ...computer sensed "lean" condition and was causing the auto transmission to go into a "default mode" resulting in the "hard shifting" . Doesn't make much sense to me however I guess the computers were trying to protect the engine.

thanks for the update. i hate it when folks never give the answer to their problem, so i award you 2 points!!!
(100 points gets you a gold star, 1 aw crude wipes the boad clean and you have to start over)

what you said sorta makes sense. i havent nailed my sah down yet, it always clears up before i can get it to a shop, but so far i have found that when i get P0106 map sensor, sah happens soon after.

It's been a while since I had that problem....I did replace the Maf sensor and the problem was solved. I periodically clean my MAF sensor by taking it out and using a "MAf Sensor Spray Cleaner" especially designed for MAF sensors only. (do not use an electrical contact cleaner). This spray will keep dirt and debris off the sensor filaments.

This worked for my situation... The dealer can hook up a computer to the car while test driving and look at the air fuel mixture in real time and see if the MAf is functioning properly. In my case car was running too lean.

The traction system and hard shifting transmission was not the problem...it was a computer trying to tell me I had problem but not what that problem was....I know that does not make much sense.

I have never had that issue again....problem solved.

I hope you get it resolved....

Dave

Thank you for reply so quickly. I did not have a shifting problem but the engine was running rough and flashing warning light. I'm going to order a replacement right now. Thank again.

Default Service Traction control system

I am having the same issue. 2008 6 speed. I have the service traction control system message on my dashboard and also I cant get the car into reverse now.

I can shift through all the gears, but once I try to reverse it will not shift into gear no matter how hard I push the shifter.

Based on the searches I have done it sounds like the Reverse lockout solenoid went bad.

I'm hoping to replace the solenoid and everything will be back to normal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My problem was not the MAF Sensor, low brake fluid was the cause. Fill up the brake fluid and everything was normal again. Now I have a spare MAF Sensor, good thing the MAF Sensor was not expensive. What I don't understand is why the engine was running rough when the brake fluid was low.
