I'd never say that your GS record is not important, but I also cut 1.7's while spinning on narrower (base size) Invos and a 11.45 ET with +400 DA just having fun at PBIR while vacationing in FL. Yes, I have a Vararam and a 2.56 gear too. With DR's and race ready, you'll find me with a 10.82 on the LS3 fast list.

No, the box is a fresh air CAI, it will run the 1/4 just fine as it did not the Z with a 10.61. We ran it at Richmond drayway in 06. Yes I sell allot of them, but at $800 you do not see lots of cars out there with it. If you look under the hood of some Phoenix built race cars and some very serious built cars you will see the Mamba.

Justin I am trying to understand this, you ran your 2006 Z06 in 2006 with nothing for mods except drag radials & your airbox and ran a 10.61, at that time you would have beat everyone, and you didn't post it on the forum for entry to the list to promote sales of your air boxand i have seen a lot of serious built cars and never seen one, if it gave that much et back then it must be worth .40

Default Wow! & WOW!!!

GOOD NEWS FLASH FOR ALL "GRAND SPORT" OWNERS!!!

Since we seem to be getting into the weeds in this thread I went back to look the 1/4 mile records over including the lighter narrow body LS3 bolt-on records; now I may be wrong but it looks to me that when the Grand Sport & standard body are compared with "just" these bolt-ons= CAI, HEADERS, TUNE my heavy GS (11.52) is faster than "any/all" narrow bodys on the bolt-on fast list (vararam or no) and we can forget about my runflats to boot!!! WOW!!!!

It was posted back then and I had a ton of sales. I am not sure there was a fast list back then. I can't explain why you have never seen one. I sell enough to be happy, too many irons in the fire to concentrate on just one item.

How do you mod the stock airbox? Just picked up my '13 yesterday and like the new air intake layout better than my '06 had--which I modded with a K&N Aircharger and pinned back shroud. Can the shroud be pushed back on the LS3, or do you drill it out to get outside air? Very interested in lowering intake air temp as 1 degree F equals roughly 1 HP on the road. Also like the stock exhaust note much better than the '06's, which I changed out for Bullets. May go with Loudmouths this time, as they are $250 cheaper. But...answers please on the stock airbox mod. Thanks!

1 degree Fahrenheit does not equal 1 horsepower. Maybe .05.

If you assume an original HP of 400 and a std BP, 30% hum., and 73* at a 500' elevation, a 1 degree drop has a .6 hp increase.

Of course, at normal highway speeds you only use about 50 hp, so you'll never notice the .075 hp difference.

He's saying IAT drop of 1 degree Fahrenheit equals that. So that's like saying that if I have an air-water intercooler and drop in ice to lower IAT to almost 30 degrees Fahrenheit from the normal 110-120, that I'll see 90 extra horsepower. Which is wrong. There will be an increase, but not that significant.

If you look at the Grand Sport bolt-on category you will see that I am #1 at present; you will also see #2 has all the same bolt-ons (but better quality) and he has a professional tune, not a "canned" tune like myself and also a NPP exhaust to boot. I am not "sure" but I believe #2 is using the vararam!

#2 is over 4 tenths and 3 mph slower in the 1/4 mile. GO FIGURE.

OH, and by the way I picked up 3 tenths with "just" the OEM cold air modification from my (record setting) best stock 1/4 mile time and the car still runs fine.
how do you modify the stock system? what is involved? anyone post instructions on this procedure?

Read post# 40 than click on the link at the bottom, This "may" help. You could also just cut a hole like in the link pic which would supply cold air and not be "that" noticeable, it just would not be sealed. If you don't like the results from just cutting the hole in the shroud than install a new shroud and your right back to stock. A shroud goes for approx. $45/50 last time I checked. Lots of fast guys just cut a hole in the shroud; the added advantage of a hole is that you can now get to the front of your radiator to clean bugs off!

PS: Some people just prop the shroud open at first to see if it really works, than some decide to cut a hole later. Do a search.

I love the way it has a HUGE OPENING THAT COMES DOWN THE FRONT OF THE GRILL. you will love it. Call me or email me. 8326437800. Kale713@yahoo.com
