I know my reader works but I think its the fob. I'll see if I can return it.

I also changed the settings to honk for a reminder if the key was in the vehicle and nothing happended so I guess there isn't a ghost key in my car. I also had my daughter take both my fobs all the way to the end of the block just to make sure it was far enough away from the car and the DIC said "ready for fob 1"....So I dont know what to think now!! Maybe I'll just have to make sure I never lose my key.

OK, your car is a *****. I'm out of ideas. Drive it to the dealer and get the FOBs programed. On second thought, by a new Vette, get 2 function FOBs with the new car and let someone else fight this wayward FOB program!

We're sorry to hear about the issue with your FOB key. The best thing to do would be to contact your local dealership and have them check it out for you. Let us know if you have any questions and how everything goes.

I just used the long fob to set up my new fob and it kept not going to programming mode. Follow all the directions, have the hatch popped already, glove box open. Take your working fob in the car with you and start the car then switch it off (make sure it goes off not to acc mode) then LEAP out of the car, RUN to the back where the key is already dangling in the slot. Most importantly as you're sprinting to the back THROW THE FOB FAR AWAY from you into the yard or the waiting hands of a friend, turn the key and enjoy the 30 minutes of programming. It took about 3 times to figure out the timing, but I got it.

Am I going to have to add that as "If all else fails" option to my instructions!

IF zildjianz06 tries this and it works, I'll add this lunacy to the Step action table!

Well, with the age of some Vette drivers, may need to add in find a young helper to the table as well. Like a "pinch" runner.

Hey guys I figured I'd come back and update this post. I ended up returning the Fob to my GM dealer and they ordered me another Fob just to make sure it wasnt the Fob. I ordered the same exact Fob with the same part number. I just got the new Fob yesterday, took it out of the plastic bag and went right through the same procedure. Right away the car beeped as I put it in the glove box slot, I hit the unlock button on the Fob and then hit the lower part of the engine switch and BAM it all worked!!!

So Im not sure if this is a common thing where a brand new Fob doesnt work but that was the problem in this case. I wanted to let you guys all know just in case this ever happens to someone again that even though a brand new fob doesnt work, it could still be the fob and to try to return it and get a new one.

Who'da thunk a brand new FOB would be bad? Damn, I can't write that one into my decision table.

Wow, not sure how I missed this thread. Lots of info here. While the idea of a bad new fob is a long shot, it is certainly possible. Glad it worked out. I'm not yet going to add the 'run and throw the fob' concept to my instructions, but I would certainly encourage the addition of that post to the thread that starts with the programming instructions. That's a good place for anyone to add whatever finally worked for him.

Default Your procedure works, thanks

When I bought the car it only came with a #2 fob so I purchased a #1 fob but I cant get the #1 fob to program to the car. I've researched EVERY thing on google to get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas how to get this fob to work with my car?

I've also tried to do the long procedure and I cant ever get my DIC to display "off/acc to learn" so I am unable to try the long procedure. I have verified that my glove box slot works so that hopfully is not an issue here.

These are the latest steps I've found but did not work for me...

1. With a recognized FOB and the key attached to the fob (no other recognized or unrecognized fobs within 20 ft of the vehicle) start the vet and back it out of your garage.

2. Pull the vet back into the garage..leave the vet running.

3. With the vet still running pull up on the emergency brake.

4. With the vet still running open and leave open the glove box door.

5. With the vet still running open the drivers door (and leave open for the rest of this procedure)

6. Shut the vet off as you normally do. DO NOT GO TO ACC mode.

7. Press the hatch dash button once to unlatch the hatch. Do not raise the hatch..just leave the hatch unlatched.

8. WIth the key attached to the fob (AND NO OTHER FOBS within 20 ft) insert the key (with the fob attached) into the hatch lock assembly and turn the key fully 5 times as fast as you can (ensuring a complete turn each time). LEAVE KEY WITH FOB ATTACHED IN THE HATCH LOCK. You should get a DIC message 'Ready to program FOB 3).

9. Go get the unrecognized FOB (should still be 20 ft away) and place the unrecognized fob into the slot in the glove box with FOB buttons facing away from the driver. (I did this in about 10 to 15 seconds from getting the message)

10. Very quickly (I estimate 5 sec) the DIC will read READY FOR FOB 4. At this point push the ACC ignition switch. The DIC will go blank.

11. Immediately pull out the newly programmed FOB from the glove box slot and start pressing the newly programmed FOB buttons. At first you may not believe the buttons are doing anything but continue to press them and you will notice the hatch unlocking and the lights blinking (if you have this set up when you lock using the fob).

12. The new FOB is now programmed. I recommend you place all of the fobs 20ft away and try EACH ONE (not just the new one). You will also notice that when you use the new fob (now fob 3) to start the car the radio, hvac, is no longer set to your liking.....My radio was tuned to a station I have neve listened to but as soon as I used my original fob all came back

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
After struggling for a week trying to program a near new fob I got from Ebay(50 bucks), your method works.. Thanks

Default c6 fob programming

Hi there, my name is Emanuel, I have a 2006 C6 base coupe automatic, bought it wrecked and repaired it, few things left to do, I have a new fob and trunk key, tried the long procedure but it looks like the 5 time turning doesn't work, I tried at least 10 times with 20 times each...windows have always been down since when I bought it, never had the original fob, it has an after market stereo gps by pioneer and an ipod plug aftermarket as well... I had read a while back somewhere that in the event the key lock wouldn't register the key turns it could be manually done at the ignition....know anything about it? is it the pigtail plug at the back inside the trunk , I see it has somewhat of a solenoid or at the starter button? any ideas? the airbag is deployed if that has anything to do with it... Thanks in advance,
Emanuel G
