Default Dyno Pull Gone Bad....

Video is on post #15

Well had the new FAST intake manifold installed, & put the car on a dyno.. on the 2nd pull all hell broke lose..

Flames from under the car went over the roof... We had a fire extinguisher and got the fire out instantly.. but the block now has a hole in the side that you can put your fist through

Cartek said the only thing I "MIGHT" be able to save would be the heads... MAYBE.. so I started looking on the INTERNET, & found a 2012 Camaro that was totaled and the LS3 had only 3100 miles on it ..

So I jumped on it and will be getting the LS3 for my 05.. I always wanted to see how my (A4) would run behind an LS3 with a few bolt on's...

The motor is ordered, & it should arrive next week in NJ until then I'm a desk jocky...

I got a video of the explosion and flames going as high as the ceiling, but don't know haw to transfer the video from my call phone th the forum...

I was lucky it blew on the Dyno and NOT at the BIG end of the track...

Save the video to photobucket and then copy and paste the link from photo bucket. Sorry to hear about the mishap!

Sorry to hear about your disaster.
Upload the video to youtube. It works better than photobucket on videos.

FYI, the intake will not work on an LS3.

Worth wasting the extra money on a FAST?

Too bad that happened, but better there than a lot of other places.

In true racer form, you accepted the problem and immediately look for a solution that will be better. This should be a good test using the A4, since it seems the quickest LS2's and LS7's use that trans.

BTW, unless your's is salvagable, you might start looking for a Corvette LS3 oil pan and pickup tube, since the Camaro one won't work in your car. Save your valve covers too.

So what caused the piston/rod to break? Especially if it was just an intake change and tune?

Sucks that it happened.

Wow, bummer. Sorry to hear. I am also curious if you know what caused it?

Nope.. we haven't even gotten into the motor yet..it looks like a rod just let go.. it was at about 6500 RPM when it let go....

More likely a rod bearing or a piston seized, and the conn rod was the victim, along with the block.
