Wow! That was a scary video. I hope the guy in the car came back to clean off the seat after he changed his pants.

Well you know somebody has to ask and this time it's me. How much power were you making on that pull and did you get the dyno sheet?

Sorry to hear that. How many miles were on that engine? Best of luck with your new engine and project.

Jpee.. I'm really sorry to hear (and see) this.. what a major drag!.. I can't believe how well you are handling this. I would be sad, pissed and beside myself if I had to buy a new motor after a Dyno pull.. man.. Best of luck with getting the LS3 in there. I'm sure it will be great, but what a cr_ppy reason to have to change motors.

Guess we won't be seeing you for a couple of weeks at Cars & coffee.. Let me know how it all turns out!

What a bad turn of events. Your calm manner is inspiring.

What does the HP Tuners/EFI live scan say? It may give some clues as to what happened.

Cartek said the only thing I "MIGHT" be able to save would be the heads... MAYBE.. so I started looking on the INTERNET, & found a 2012 Camaro that was totaled and the LS3 had only 3100 miles on it ..

So I jumped on it and will be getting the LS3 for my 05.. I always wanted to see how my (A4) would run behind an LS3 with a few bolt on's...

The motor is ordered, & it should arrive next week in NJ until then I'm a desk jocky...

I got a video of the explosion and flames going as high as the ceiling, but don't know haw to transfer the video from my call phone th the forum...

I was lucky it blew on the Dyno and NOT at the BIG end of the track...
real sorry to hear about your bad luck jpee

Probably the very same thing that causes any rod to break, likely a stretched rod bolt that fatigued and just let go. And we all know the results when THAT happens at 5k or 6k RPM.
A quick internet search shows that this is unfortunately NOT the first stock LS2 bottom end to let go for no apparent reason.

Yes I had one go 5 years ago. Of course that motor had been put together by the VD's and they have no idea on how to build an engine.

Sorry for your loss John. Hopefully you will be up and running soon.

Thanks guys.. I have a 3100 mile LS3 on the way to CARTEK hopefully it get there by late next week.. (Its coming from Fl.

I don't know how much work Cartek has to do pertaining to swapping motors.. the LS3 came out of a stick shift Camaro..

I hope when its finishes all my gages i.e. oil temp, water temp, oil pressure, and the Trip functions etc.. etc.. still work I don't even know if they will adapt to an 05 car ??

Jpee all that will work. Biggest issue is the motor has a 58 tooth replicator wheel and your car has a 24. They will either have to take out the crank to replace it or use the adaptor that Lingenfelder.

I'm pretty sure they said they will use a Linginfelter adapter... Do you know if the oil pan will work or will they have to use my LS2 oil pan ?

Also I heard talk about the oil pick up ?????

Is it much work & parts to install the LS3 that came out of a stick shift Camaro to my Automatic ??

I was told my headers will fit...(Hopefully they will)

John, John, John. How quickly you forget these days. JK

The Camaro oil pan will not work. Your LS2 pan might and probably will, but someone will have to verify it's the same part number as the Corvette LS3. The LS3 blocks have different internal webbing to gain strength and better airflow in the crank area, so it's possible that the pan may have differences too. You'll definitely need the Corvette LS3 windage tray and the oil pickup tube.

The LS3 (manual shift) block will bolt up to your car without any changes and your headers will fit also.

IIRC, you'll need to retain your LS2 valve covers, because a couple of the mounting studs are different. The water pump is also different on the Vette pump and probably the Camaro too, so check to see if you want to change hoses etc, or just use your LS2 pump before dropping the engine in the car. The water pump changed in '09 and I forget all the details. Personally, I'd put a new '08 or earlier pump on and know that it's good for a long time.

If you want to port the intake manifold, do it now. However, you won't need that to be able to easily run 11.50's.

I'm going to guess your first pass will be 11.30 and you may hit 10's before year's end.

Damn your car was making great power for just boltons before it popped. My pos c6 a6 with a ported fast 102, vararam, long tubes, catted x, msrp bullet axle back, vmax ported tb and hp tuner Dyno tuned made a whopping 378 rwhp& 383 Rwtq before my circle d stall.
the video is tough to watch but you have the same attitude I have. It is what it is, can't cry about it but focus on a new plan of action to make it better than before. Lemonade out of lemons. Good luck on your ls3 build and even better track times

NO !! I went to an LS3 thats a few more cubes, but if I want to go bigger it will cost me BIG $$ as the motor will have to be torn down...
The motor I'm getting only has 3100 miles on it, (almost new) and I'm no spring chicken in other words I'm an "old bastid" and I'm sure I wont be going to the track every week as I used to.. (its 100 miles each way for me to race at E Town)

I'll prob just port the stock intake, and use the Kooks Headers I have now and whatever it runs , it runs.. I can be going nuts and spending my savings to run .5 faster... if I was 20 yrs younger YES I'd go for a 427 motor... but in my situation I'll have to settle for an LS3..

I updated the WP info in my previous post, in case you want to forward that to Cartek. Maybe they've done the Camaro to pre-'09 Vette swap before, but if not, that info should save them some time.

I think you'll like the results.
