Dyno Pull Gone Bad....

Well you know somebody has to ask and this time it's me. How much power were you making on that pull and did you get the dyno sheet?
Guess we won't be seeing you for a couple of weeks at Cars & coffee.. Let me know how it all turns out!

Well had the new FAST intake manifold installed, & put the car on a dyno.. on the 2nd pull all hell broke lose..
Flames from under the car went over the roof...
We had a fire extinguisher and got the fire out instantly.. but the block now has a hole in the side that you can put your fist through
Cartek said the only thing I "MIGHT" be able to save would be the heads... MAYBE.. so I started looking on the INTERNET, & found a 2012 Camaro that was totaled and the LS3 had only 3100 miles on it ..
So I jumped on it and will be getting the LS3 for my 05.. I always wanted to see how my (A4) would run behind an LS3 with a few bolt on's...
The motor is ordered, & it should arrive next week in NJ until then I'm a desk jocky...

I got a video of the explosion and flames going as high as the ceiling, but don't know haw to transfer the video from my call phone th the forum...
I was lucky it blew on the Dyno and NOT at the BIG end of the track...

A quick internet search shows that this is unfortunately NOT the first stock LS2 bottom end to let go for no apparent reason.

Yes I had one go 5 years ago. Of course that motor had been put together by the VD's and they have no idea on how to build an engine.
Sorry for your loss John. Hopefully you will be up and running soon.
I have a 3100 mile LS3 on the way to CARTEK hopefully it get there by late next week.. (Its coming from Fl.I don't know how much work Cartek has to do pertaining to swapping motors.. the LS3 came out of a stick shift Camaro..
I hope when its finishes all my gages i.e. oil temp, water temp, oil pressure, and the Trip functions etc.. etc.. still work I don't even know if they will adapt to an 05 car ??
Also I heard talk about the oil pick up ?????
Is it much work & parts to install the LS3 that came out of a stick shift Camaro to my Automatic ??
I was told my headers will fit...(Hopefully they will)

JKThe Camaro oil pan will not work. Your LS2 pan might and probably will, but someone will have to verify it's the same part number as the Corvette LS3. The LS3 blocks have different internal webbing to gain strength and better airflow in the crank area, so it's possible that the pan may have differences too. You'll definitely need the Corvette LS3 windage tray and the oil pickup tube.
The LS3 (manual shift) block will bolt up to your car without any changes and your headers will fit also.
IIRC, you'll need to retain your LS2 valve covers, because a couple of the mounting studs are different. The water pump is also different on the Vette pump and probably the Camaro too, so check to see if you want to change hoses etc, or just use your LS2 pump before dropping the engine in the car. The water pump changed in '09 and I forget all the details. Personally, I'd put a new '08 or earlier pump on and know that it's good for a long time.
If you want to port the intake manifold, do it now. However, you won't need that to be able to easily run 11.50's.
I'm going to guess your first pass will be 11.30 and you may hit 10's before year's end.

the video is tough to watch but you have the same attitude I have. It is what it is, can't cry about it but focus on a new plan of action to make it better than before. Lemonade out of lemons. Good luck on your ls3 build and even better track times
The motor I'm getting only has 3100 miles on it, (almost new) and I'm no spring chicken in other words I'm an "old bastid" and I'm sure I wont be going to the track every week as I used to.. (its 100 miles each way for me to race at E Town)
I'll prob just port the stock intake, and use the Kooks Headers I have now and whatever it runs , it runs.. I can be going nuts and spending my savings to run .5 faster... if I was 20 yrs younger YES I'd go for a 427 motor... but in my situation I'll have to settle for an LS3..

I think you'll like the results.
