I know the subject has been covered before but I would appreciate the latest information.
If I want to stay with the factory 19"X12" GS wheels it appears my only option is a Nitto NT05R 345-30-19. Correct?
However, it appears the "conventional wisdom" says the short sidewall on the 19's will create traction issues and a 17" rim and narrower tire will be better. Assuming this is the case, what would be a wheel/tire combo that is a direct fit e.g. correct backspacing, no spacers, no hammering to the calipers, etc. for the GS?
Finally, assuming the car is trailered to the strip, can I run without Tire Pressure Monitors and defeat the gremlins the computers will create?
I'm researching this also for my `13 GS which will need traction soon (blower/headers/meth/stall-converter are being installed as I type). Yep, there seem to be multiple drag radial options for 17" and 18" wheels but...I stumbled upon one Vette owner who claims 1.5 second short times on Nitto NT05R 345-30-19's. I think he said @ 10 PSI. I don't recall his mods but that's very respectable for a street car on DOT 19's in my opinion.
A 17 x 9.5 wheel from a C4 or C5 Z06 will allow either a 275/40 x17 or 315/40 (?) x 17 DR to fit. The 275 will handle HP to 550-600. Short of a custom wheel, nothing has the correct backspacing. Since you're trailering, the computer won't even know the TPS are missing.
Being that you're an auto you want to keep tire heights similar to stock unless you're going to be tuning the trans at the track, if that's not the case I'd recommend base C5 rear wheels with a 265/40r18 M/T DR
