I have 08 c6 auto, wife was driving the car tonight, before she came home check engine light came on with the abs light and traction control light and the car would not go over 30 mph. I checked the gas cap to see if it was on tight.restarted the car, engine light is still on,i took the car for a three mile drive, and everything seems to be functioning normal, what could be the problem? Thanks in advance.
With the electronics in these cars it's really futile to guess at what's going on. The best course is to get the codes read to see what it's complaining about then maybe we can help.
If you don't have a code reader, local auto stores, like Autozone, will read the codes for free. They won't clear them but they will read them.
100% AGREE!! Do yourself a favor and purchase a good CAN BUSS compliant code reader. I keep mine in the C6 or very handy..
As soon as it farts wrong, I read the DTCs and see what is wrong. I Always read the DTCs when there is an issue before I turn the engine OFF. Sometimes some DTCs clear with ignition OFF and ON again.
Look at the ACTRON CODE readers. I got mine on AMAZON for less than local autoparts store prices. Most of the higher end readers have LIVE SENSOR DATA and you can read engine codes, look at engine sensor signals and read the O2 sensor output! Great for trouble shooting!
I paid $140 for my actron scanner about 5 years ago..

As long as you don't disconnect the battery, the codes will be stored in your ECM. Get a reader and read the codes. Then we can offer suggestions. Too many codes available to even try and guess.
Short story....on a C6 with Vector Cold Air intake (plus a few other goodies) I saw my engine light come on. Use a 9580 Actron and see that the banks are running rich!!
Turned out a few days earlier I had hit a bird hat decided to land in front of me at 50 mph. There was a snow storm of feathers but I couldn't find anything inside other than on the radiator. Turned out I had feathers in my MAF. The Actron saved me a trip to the service shop!!Plus ya can clear codes after repair.
The Actron 9580 tells you the code and what it means plus shows you where the sensor is that is causing the code!! A great investment. Your looking at 180-240 depending on where ya get it......don't cheap out the small ones don't do CAN.
I brought the car to my mechanic this morning,he checkrd the code, turns out i need a new gas pedal sensor.the part is 110 dollars plus labor.i just hope he does not mess up my tune if he has to flash the cpu.
Thank you everybody for your input.

You need an air filter if you are getting feathers in your MAF sensor...that means lots of dirt is getting into the engine. It's a screen, but the MAF is not designed to filter out the big pieces...

That's what I was thinking. How the hell could feathers get past an air filter!

That. Even a crappy one like a K&N shouldn't let feathers in. Tons of dust yes, but not feathers . Better check it man, or you're going to ruin your engine in short order. Good luck.
