Friend found a flat coiled spring on the floor of his 2009 C6 ZO6 while cleaning car. About 1 1/2" in diameter and only one coil with a hook on one end and broken on the other end. Any help with IDing it would be appreciated. Thanks!
That is really the only spring that it could be. Some people are less sensitive to clutch feel than others, which may explain why he says the clutch feels the same. Also, it may be that this spring broke long ago but the piece was held up out of sight, so that when it finally fell on the floor, the clutch actually did not feel any different. The difference with and without the spring should be very obvious...not better or worse, but certainly different.
Mine broke a while back. I did a search here and found a typical heated forum debate. There are three choices: leave it out, replace it with new one, or replace it with a C5 spring which is lighter and has a better feel than the C6 spring. The debate ranged from: "if the GM engineers didn't think it was important they wouldn't have put it there in the first place", to "I took mine out years ago and have never had an issue".
I think it has a much better feel without it, and I'm lazy and cheap, I left it out.
