2006 C6, automatic. I have had a rattle when I sit at idle. When I drive I don't hear anything special, but always at idle. I finally crawled under and it is coming from the small bell housing in front of the transmission. What is in there? Is there somewhere to see a parts blow up? There is a rubber cover that can be removed, must not be any oil in there is it a U joint or the such? Thanks, Paul
That is the back of the Torque Tube Bell housing. There should be a rubber close out plug that you can remove and inspect. The bell housing contains the actual Torque converter and will allow you access to the bolts that secure it to the flange on the output shaft of the torque tube. No, there is or should NOT be any oil or trash in that area.
Examine the bolts that secure the torque converter to the flange on the Torque tube and make sure that they are not loose.
I had a brocken torque converter flex plate break. The flexplate has 3 spokes. Pull of the rubber inspection cover off and look carefully at the flexplate it sounds like that my be your problem, mine is a 2006 c6 a6, good luck, John
Well, the repair shop said they had torque converters with rattle in 2006 and pulled it apart, also to fix fuel level problem. Then checked the prop. shaft and found a rattle there. The nut on the flange that attached to the flex plate was off and stripped. He said the torque converter made it come off. (I am skeptical, but the cost would be more if it was bad and had to be pulled out again.) So he put new nut with Loctite on and new torque converter. Thanks for ideas.
