Default Hood pins?

I'm looking at picking up a new hood from LG, the listed options are either hood pin or OEM hinge style. The problem with the OEM hinge style is it adds $900 to the price (which to me sounds a bit crazy).

So I guess my question is who here uses hood pins, which kind would you recommend and are they worth it? Which side of the hood are they supposed to install on? I've seen some photos with vette hoods that have them installed on the front (closest the bumper) which seems counter-intuitive to me, since that's the hinge side and not the latch (or is that the whole point of them? To replace the hinge?) If I install them, does that mean whenever I want to remove the hood I have to actually lift the whole hood off? And finally, could I readily switch back to a stock hood if I wanted/needed to for whatever reason?

Never had 'em before- most of my performance cars before now were classics and they were street driven show cars, not competitive by any means. If I should just spend the money and get the OEM hinge fit one that's fine too- looking for opinions on the value of one versus the other (ie. $80 vs. $900 in terms of is it worth it in the long run to have one or the other?)

In any event, these are the ones I'm looking at possibly getting:

to go with this hood:

hood pin setups save weight , however you must remove the hood to work under it also you will need four pins for this setup (front & back)
for more info try posting in the autocross/ road racing sub forum

hood pin hoods are like a pice of saran wrap nothing to them, with hinges they have to build the hood stronger! pin hoods where do you put the hood when you take it off? racing they set it on the roof, you going to do that or lean it against the gas pump with the $1000 paint job on it?

Hood pins on most cars just replace the latch(es), not the hinges.

If you are replacing both the hinges AND latches then you have a lift off hood.

The original question would have been better directed to LG, who is supplying the hood. Then you would understand the choices rather than relying on forum members. Once you knew how the LG hood functioned, asking forum members for opinions and reviews could help with the decision.

Not trying to give you a hard time, but just a better direction.

Nope- I totally agree, and I'll be posting some questions to LG when I call them. Unfortunately I had to work until the weekend so it'll have to wait till Monday! I'll post the answers to my questions here for ease of reference, but encourage anyone interested in the matter to definitely head over to the racing section and tap into those guys' expertise.

[EDIT]

For those interested, just got off the phone. The pin mount hood is just that, an entirely pin mounted hood that requires four pins and removes all hinges/latches/supports. It's basically a top skin hood and offers a significant weight advantage of nearly 26lbs over the stock hood.

The OEM hinge mount includes the required hardware as well as latch configuration etc, and offers a significant weight advantage of approximately 16lbs.

On both hoods, the louvers are wide open, and if you desire it you'd have to apply a mesh grill yourself.
