It's all good. Never bought the GS to race, it will never be a Z06 nor did I ever intend it too. The weight and the power under the curve puts it at a disadvantage but for the minimal mods I did I am happy with it

I have 2012 GS manual with a few simple bolt-on mods already done for the engine (SLP exhaust and induction and a new tune). I am considering bumping up from that to something like mentioned here that would rival Z06 power/torque while maintaining stock driveability (and hopefully not totally void my remaining warranty!). I would budget maybe $3-5K. What would you recommend as best option for that price? Thanks very much.

I just finished upgrading my '13 Grand Sport mn6 with a set of PFADT headers and a custom cam from Tick Performance. Specs were 219/232 and something like .584 .607 lift 113 +5 LSA.

Baseline data 407 RWHP and this brought it to 466 RWHP. I also picked up 50 ft lbs of torque at 3200 RPMs.

I also did the trunnion upgrade, added a factory Z06 air cleaner/box, and an ATI dampener. Pretty happy.

My friend has an 08 m6 with headers, super bee intake + tune, put out 440ish and about the same torque. (I know very high for that combination!) my bone stock. 08 z pulled on him in every gear. I had an Ls2 and I can tell you the z revs soo much faster and is very violent in 3rd gear. I'm pretty sure cammed ls3 with headers intake would be a drivers race for sure between a z.

Cam and the goodies that go with it. You will haul azz.
Only trouble....half the Z's are upgraded, also, but I think the power of an upgraded LS2 or 3 is easier to put to the ground, than an upgraded LS7.

My 1LT '08 M6 went 124 in the quarter with just bolt ons, so I won't agree that it takes a cam to get to the Z06 "level" in a straight line (and it kind of irritates me to keep reading that). Lots of stock Zs have dynoed in the 440s and trapped in the 124 range (or less). But a GS or 3LT obviously has a weight disadvantage that affects the result.

But if you define Z06 "level" as only precisely as fast as a Z06, the issue is that bolt-ons may only get you slightly less fast than a Z06, while a cam should get you a little faster than a Z06. Typical cam results should be 470-490 rwhp and high 120s in the quarter.
