this isn't a go fast question, but it is technical....posted in general, but thought this might get more info.....
looking to hide a spare fob in the car and tuck a spare key underbody.....just in case of emergency....
so I have heard rumors that the caddy FOBs that look just like ours are the same and can be programmed for C6....seems to make sense to me, and the Caddy fobs are Cheap by comparison........
It makes sense it is true. Why would an automaker purchase two different types of electronic FOBs when all they have to do is purchase one type and have the vendor put two different labels on it. Saves on parts cost, saves on inventory costs, saves on part number maintenance cost and more than likely saves on BCM software development/testing costs since they can reuse the code.
The older Caddy fobs that look like '08+ Caddy and C6 fobs are physically different internally. I also own a '08 Caddy, so I'm familiar with both fobs.
I bought a 4 button Caddy fob (pre-'08) to replace the cracked case on my C6. When that didn't work, I bought a late model C6 fob and swapped my guts into the good case, rather than try to reprogram the fob.
If you'd like to buy the cracked case fob for a '08+ C6 with working guts and reprogram it for your car, to use as a emergency spare, then send me a PM.
I guess I will find out the hard way....I ordered a cheap caddy 4 button off ebay and I don't know what year it is from, but it does look like ours,,,,,hopefully it is the right one...
