Miles per gallon
To all my friends-
Owners manual indicates I should be getting 18 to 27 miles per gallon. I have been getting 20.7 with no led footing. I recently did a round trip to Phoenix almost 900 miles and still getting 20.7.
What kind of miles per gallon are you experiencing?

You didn't say what engine you have.
My 427 vert is spec'd by GM to get 24 hwy, and on the 180 mile trip home after picking it up new it got 24.3 in mixed driving. Totally happy with that, but haven't paid much attention to it since then.
A scan tool can tell you what your fuel trims are and whether they might be adjusting for some issue in the engine. Lots of info here and on the web about that.

LS3 MN6 with 4:10 gears and I get 22-24 on the open flat road with no lead footing cruising @ 75mph.
I can get more but it would be at 65 mph, I have seen 26 mpg this way, with the 4:10's.
The above is using the disc which reads high by maybe 1 to 1 1/2 mpg.

Engine type is an LS2

need paper and pencil to do simple math.
It is relative really just as long as when comparing ones fuel consumption that they use the same system.
I understand that the disc reads higher for mpg. For me the important thing is relative to other tank fills. Being the indication of something problematic happening with worsening fuel mileage.

I got just slightly better gas mileage with my 06 LS2 engine than I'm getting with my 012 LS3 engine.
When I was putting quite a few miles on the interstate at 75 MPH, my LS3 was getting about 26 MPG, where the LS2 was getting about 27 to 27.5 MPG. Lot of hills on the interstates in TN.
In town, with a moderate amount of stop-n-go driving, the LS3 is getting about 15 MPG, where the LS2 was getting about 16 MPG.
I never bothered to even look at what the car "said" I was getting.

DIC is pretty accurate. The only way you can get the math to work accurately is to do multiple fill ups over a very long trip. That will help cover the inherent error in not getting the tank full to the same level. Tank fills can vary by two or three gallons depending on how the car is sitting, the expansion space at the top of tank, how slow you run the pump and the sensitivity of the pump's automatic shutoff. The expansion volume can hold up to 5 gallons of fuel if you nurse it in slowly. The only way to average out the unknowns is to drive far enough to get 5 or more fillups before doing the math.

Bill, Did you reset your gas mileage. I just learned this the other day from this forum. Mine was saying 18 mpg and when I reset it and went 33 miles it was averaging 25 + for some stop and go with highway miles. I was going to thank the forum for the info but read your thread. Thanks forum guys.

I want to thank everybody for your responses. This information helped quite a bit. I now reset the DIC with every fill-up and found my mileage increasing to 23 to 24 MPG average. I guess resetting the DIC was the key. Now I don't feel so bad about driving. The final test will be a long trip and I'm sure my wife will come up with a destination for us to go visit.

On my 2006 LS2 vette with cold air, headers, FAST, and a tune I could get 18-20 back and forth to work every day, 26-28 on the highway with a best of 31.3 mpg from Dallas to Indy.
My 2008 Z06 with just a tune and filter replacement would get 17.4 to 19 back and forth to work, and 24-25 on the highway with a best of 28.2 from Dallas to OKC.

I want to thank everybody for your responses. This information helped quite a bit. I now reset the DIC with every fill-up and found my mileage increasing to 23 to 24 MPG average.
