Default calling chevy customer service

I tried ordering front brake rotors for my 2012 Grand Sport. I went to two online retailers and one local dealer. All have failed. My vin number does not come up in the system. Ive had two outright cancellations and one wrong parts arrrival. I finally went to tire rack and ordered aftermarket. Why doesnt my vin come up and why cant i order z06 rotors?

Are you saying that your VIN does not show in the GM database?

Apparently not. I keep hearing "it doesn't come up". I must not be in the system and will have to check with a dealer in person to try to figure it out. I'm hoping customer service will check in and help speed it up.

Never had to use my VIN to order stock rotors. Advance Auto also sells Z06/GS replacement rotors at two different price points. The low price ones work well. I have 3 track days on a set and they still haven't cracked. Probably good for two more days which means they last about the same as the OEM rotors.

Unless you are driving lots of city miles or doing some track events stock 2012 GS rotors should be good for another 4 or 5 years.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for jumping in here. You are right, the current rotors are original. I wanted a backup rotor for a pair of hpde's I ran last weekend. I thought the heat cracks I saw were minor enough but didn't want to take a chance on them. We have Napa auto parts out here, they had rotors but they were in Portland and too far away. I thought the local dealer would have them more locally but their closest was Nevada.

That's a great tip on Advance Auto, unfortunately no store within 100 miles of Everett Washington. At times it feels like we are far from civilization. At least there are 5 tracks within a 5 hour drive.

I did both events and watched the rotors very closely, took cool down laps and fortunately the weather cooperated by staying cloudy and cool.

I plan to stop by a dealer to find out if they can do anything about the vin discrepancy in their system or who I need to get it straightened out.

You are probably confusing the parts guy ordering Z06 rotors for a GS. Parts guys don't always know what they are doing. Try ordering GS rotors, that way if they ask for a VIN you'll have the correct #.

Hey Mike,

Would you mind PM'ing us your VIN from your windshield VIN plate? We can run your VIN to see if anything comes up for us!

Thanks,

If you really want OEM rotors get hold of GMPartsHouse. Pretty sure Gene has them in stock. I bought some from him a year ago. Honestly though, if you're going to do more than one or two HPDEs I'd really consider upgrading. I burned up a set of these in two weekends using hawk hp+ pads.

I'm disappointed Gene had to find another location from which to work. GMPH was the first place I went to, Patrick was great to work with, I hope they are back in business soon.

HPDE's are great fun and what is even better are the people that attend. I like to do a minimum of 3/year and had already burned up a set of oem pads last year with 15k miles on the car doing 6 events. Eventually I'll upgrade the brake system but so far I've done okay with OEM and with a kid in college my priorities get shuffled. As Bill Dearborn had mentioned some time ago, OEM rotors are about the best bang for the buck.

Since I burned up my pads last year, this year I changed to Carbotech, XP-10's in front and XP-8's in rear. Honestly, as an intermediate driver my impression is the XP-10's are a little strong. The rotors seem to do okay with them and I just changed back to the Bobcats yesterday, It looked like the pads did well for three session but really squealed on the street. The pad material transferred to the rotors okay but if I got behind a slow car that wouldn't let me pass, I couldn't keep the rotors hot enough to keep the pads working and that transfer layer would scrape off again. I must be in the transition group where an aggressive pad isn't quite needed and OEM pads burn up quickly.

I pm'd my vin to GM Customer Service, anxiously awaiting a reply. Good to find out there is an issue right now so it can be resolved in case something more serious happens in the future.
