Default C5 diff housing with C6 side covers

So can I stick C6 differential side covers on a C5 diff and run it in a C6??

Anybody near Dallas want to lend me a C5 housing?

I ask because I have 2 05 C6 carriers or "pumpkins" in perfect condition and I'd like to drop them in a C5 housing to see if it works. I know you have to shim them to get them to mesh right but besides that?

I want to be able to reuse these carriers. In fact will my 05 carriers/pumpkins fit in an 06+ differential housing? ?

get in contact with Norm stanger383 the side covers wont fit unless they are machined or the c5 housing is, one or the other is flat with o ring the other is beveled, yes your carrier gears and all will fit in the 2nd generation housing, i have mine in an 2010 with a 2007 side cover and a 2009 side cover

Thanks for your input. Did you have to reshim anything on the 2010 housed diff or was it just bolt bolting up the pinion gear and sliding in the carrier and bolting up the side covers?

I was an automatic so i needed the adapter from RPM, Cartek did the swap, I think it takes special tools to do the job not like the old days

side covers will need machined and I think if I recall a hole needs drilled/tapped, I may be wrong. as said before, RPM would know.

The 05 ring gear and carrier will fit in a 06+ non-Z06 case. It will also fit in a c5 case.

You don't want to reuse the 05 case for anything. They are weak.

If you have an 05 car you can mount a c5 complete diff in it with an adaptor that you can get from stanger383. It uses the c5 rear mounting holes and adapts it to your c6 cradle. I've been running one for years, mine was made by Cartek using a c3 transmission mount with ears welded on. 5litereater had a mount for sale a while back, might want to pm him.
