Default E85 or Gas/Meth

I am moving from the Midwest to the Seattle area and am having to make a choice about my fueling setup.

Currently the car is setup with DStecks Flexfuel sensor so I can run either gas or E85.

CR is currently 12.5:1 but with wisecos going in, it should bump it to 13.25:1

The issue comes in when we talk sourcing the fuel. E85 isnt common at all in the area and the closest station will be about 20-30min out of the way for me. On top of this, it is actually a decent bit more expensive than premium.

The other issue is the area has a 92 octane max for the premium.

What would everyone advise? Make repeated trips to the e85 station and bring gas cans to bring home or get meth injection setup to use with the 92 octane. I would like to drive the car as much as possible outside the commute to work.

Thank you for your time.

The downside of meth, to get any deal on Meth per gallon, will be in a 55gallon steel drum from a chemical supply chain that you have to find a place to store it.

As for E85, are you sure that your car is set up to run it (not just tuned for E10 or E15 fuel instead)? It takes larger injectors, as well as a upgraded pump since you push a lot more of E-85 into the engine than you would of regular gas.

I am certain the car can run E85. It has Dstecks sensor, bigger injectors/pump. Just trying to figure out what would be the least amount of hassle, while having a safe build.

E85, since is the same risk as using standard fuel, hence only have a tank full of it in the car at any given time.

With meth, not only will you have a 55 gal steel drum of Meth that you have to worry about, but at least a gallon jug of 50/50 meth/water in the back of the car to fill up the tank when it get low on the road.

It kind of like race fuel, and to get a good price on it, have to buy it in large quantities, but at the same time, not something that you just want to store around the house in the garage in those kind of quantities.

You can run 93 at 12.5 without any issues?

doesn't sound like e85 would be practical. you need to calculate your dynamic compression ratio to find out if 92 octane + methanol is enough for your new set up. Here in the sf bay area, methanol is $3.50/gallon and I used to buy 10 gallons at a time. On the street, i rarely had to refill the windshield washer tank. At the track 1 gallon would last me a 20 min session.

the dual fuel approach is fantastic and the car will be easier to tune and run great on e85 vs having to pull timing or drown it with meth to suppress detonation with that much compression

you can get e85 in drums and its better quality but for sure a hassle to aquire

you really need to think about the tune and pulling timing to run on pump gas plus meth to avoid low rpm detonation

that's alot of compression for a street engine and I definely recommend the e85 approach since you are already there!!

I'm kinda in the same boat and if you are driving 30 min to pick it up it will make you wish the car had a bigger fuel tank

I pick it up with racing jugs and fill up the car at the same time but you will go through the e85 FAST as you know it takes more of it !!
