CD Error message on Nav screen

CD Error message on Nav screen
Yes, exactly "CD Error" related to the 6 disc changer in the trunk.
2005 Vert Bose/ Navigation/Aux CD Changer.
I can't find reference to this specific message in the factory repair manual.
Was listening to music using the changer, disk 5 ended and went to disk 6 then error message occurred. All other Nav functions including radio, in-dash CD, sound, screen etc work as usual. When I touch to access the aux cd the error message appears for 15 seconds or so.
Changer cartridge ejects fine. When the cartridge is re-inserted I can hear it cycle through the six disks. Went as far as to replace the disks with another set...all are OEM music disks. Also inserted an empty cartridge and again with only one disk to no success.
Disconnected wiring plug into the changer for 10 minutes.
Removed negative battery cable for 1 minute.
Also tapped the changer with a rubber hammer.
Error remained on screen with all three attempts.
Any advise, leads, reference page in manual?

Could mean the unit is bad or going bad.....or maybe just dirty.
