It's quite possible, but unlikely, that the nut that holds the lever on the transmission backed off and the lever fell off. Fix time 1 minute labor, zero parts.
There's also a clip on the cable at the trans end for adjustment that could have popped off and allowed the cable to become disconnected. Fix time 1 minute labor, $.29 part most places or $16 at a dealer.
However, with all the continuous manual shifting, I'd suspect other parts.
Those taco joints and Subways are hard on shifters. You either need a driver mod or different food choices.
LOL.. HOXXOH: I'm going to start driving my Toyota when I go for tacos...
One more question...Does anyone have the book for labor time for the dealers repair time?....If so ,what would be the labor time to replace the shift cable?....The service writer told me last week it was 4 hrs at $122.00 per hr & $122.00 for a diagnostic's...That's Crazy!!
Either learn to wrench on the car yourself, or you will be forking out huge "Corvette tax" every time you take the car to the dealer to have them work on it instead.

I've worked on every ride that I have every owned since I was a kid, now I'm 72 years young, I do not work under the cars at this time. Due to the fact that I live in a apartment & only have a carport. I've had homes with a double car garage like you guys, well that is in the past. Bottom Line"..I do not need to learn how to turn a wrench. Have a good one..
