Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. I just purchased a 2005 corvette and on the drive home it shut off on the highway 3 different times. All accesorries stay on and the car doesnt sputter, just completly turns off. I had to pull off the road before restarting. The display reads accesory mode then shift into park before it allows it to restart. I have an appointment to take it back to the dealer but was wondering if anyone knew what could cause this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
With the limited diagnostics given I would suspect a faulty engine start switch. Complete ignition shut down is rare on these cars.
Again it's only based on the limited description you gave.
Well thanks for the input, I am still learning the car myself considering I have had it for less then 2 days. But to be a little more specific with what it is doing, no matter what speed even if at a complete stop the engine will completely turn off and give the error on the display screen accessory mode (1st) then shift into park (2) At the time the engine shuts down all accessories remain on until I shift into park. Then everything shuts down and I am able to restart the vehicle and drive again. The engine doesnt seem to be missing or running ruff before or after it happens. I have read a couple other forums with similar problems but not exactly and they were saying to check the ICM control ( ignition control module) or the Opti which I am not sure what that is.

Was someone in the passenger seat when it did this?
If yes, then check the BCM main connectors wires to make sure that they have some slack, and it not someone pushing down on the carpet that is slightly unplugging the blue connectors to the BCM.
As for starter switch, easy enough to pull it part to clean if its the problem instead.
Have you found the problem? My '07 has started doing the same thing and I have a 400 mile trip I have to make to get home on Sunday. I'm in a small town in Ky and the local stealership has nobody trained and would not even offer to take a look at it until Monday.
I don't have a choice about taking the ride home to Georgia Sunday but would like to have an idea about the failure before I go. Thanks.
This happened to 2 '05s owned by family members. The PCM was replaced on both cars under warranty and the problem was cured. This could be a dangerous situation.

Thanks for the input. I'm purposely taking the interstate on my trip so I'll have an emergency lane available when it fails. I'd rather have that option than trying to get stopped on the side of some little country road to do a restart.
I just hope it doesn't go completely out before I get home.
The problem was a faulty ignition switch (25$ dollars on amazon), but the dealer replaced with the new version and said it happens a lot with this year with the push start. It has been over a week now and I have not had the problem since.

I'd much rather it be the ignition switch than the PCM....good place to start. Once I get home, I can drive it a little at a time until fixed.
I found a switch at a dealership in Louisville and replaced it this morning. I'll update once I've gotten home so any one else having this problem will know if this fixed it.
This is unsafe enough and there are enough folks who have had this problem that GM really should step up and fix this....or at least post a service bulletin so we don't have to spend a lot of time with this condition in order to find a solution.
I made it home yesterday without failure. I had driven the vette several times around town Friday and Saturday without failure where prior to that it had failed three times within 10 miles. I was feeling at least a bit more comfortable when I left Sunday morning to return home. Big Red did just fine on the entire trip (7 1/2 hours), never so much as thinking about a failure.
I had noticed during the last two failures that the high pitched clicks which come from the dash when we first hit the start button were clicking just before it shut down. It's not the sound of a starter solenoid, but rather seems to come from a small relay just behind the nav panel. Two to three relay clicks and the engine shut down and Red went into accessory mode. Coast to a stop, go into Park and I could restart and continue. I tried shifting into Neutral while still coasting, lightly pressing the brake to restart. It appeared the engine would start, but die as soon as I shifted from Neutral into Drive. I should have paid attention to the tach to be certain exactly what was happening, but coasting on a public road in traffic with no engine power, power steering or power brakes was a bit of sensory overload.
In my searching for a resolution, I found many hits (some on this forum, others in various places on the web) where this type of failure has occurred and been fixed with the ignition switch. I contacted a GM tech friend who works in a dealership, but there are no service bulletins describing this failure. It is such a dangerous failure that I feel it should be proactively addressed by GM. I will be sending all the web hits I found to the NHSTC asking that it be addressed. I encourage anyone else who has had such a problem do the same. Think of the consequences if an engine shut down when making a left turn across lanes of traffic, maneuvering on a curvy road (my #2 failure) or passing a slow vehicle. This is a potentially deadly failure.
I was able to fix it in 15 minutes with a $50 switch ($22 if I had time to wait on obtaining from Amazon). If any percentage of people who said in their posts that they were contacting GM actually did so, then clearly GM is aware of problems with loss of engine power. A recall would have been the correct action, but at least a Service Bulletin informing technicians would have been better than nothing. I happen to belong to the greatest Corvette resources out there (Corvette Forum of course but also Corvette Action Center) but the vast majority of Vette owners are on their own. We take care of our own, but those others have only the General. GM should never put their (and our) lives at risk over such a simple fix.
I made the mistake of buying a 2005 new (1sb, basic) and had all the wonderful first year problems; couldn't shift into first (manual), dead battery after three months, dying on the road, having to make sure the car was in reverse when I parked it, etc., etc. The joys of first year models (yup, the C7 too)....never again will I buy a first year model of anything auto.....
I started having this occur on my 2006 C-6. I had it towed to my trusted mechanic, who searched to replicate the issue. He got flustered and could not find the trouble. After replacing all the basics with no true answer, I came to the forum and had him try some of the suggestions offered here. He hit on it immediately. On the passenger side, under the carpet is the BCM, over time, the air conditioner would drip a few small drops and it would run down the underside of the carpet and had overtime, corroded the wires. Overtime he moved the module, the car shut off. He cleaned them off, reattached and miracle, no further problems. It's been 4 months, I'm so relieved. Try this.
Mine is a 2006. I had this issue a few years back. There was a recall on the fuse box under the hood. The headlight circuit was over heating and causing the headlights to shut off. My issue was my fuel pump circuit was over heating and causing my car to shut off. I could feel the hot fuse when the car shut off. I would change fuse and it would start up and run. and would be fine for a few days. As it got worse, it would do it more often. I changed everything I could think of. Until I read a thread on hear about the recall.
I know I did not have a headlight issue, but thought it still may be fuse box. So ended up finding a fuse box at the junk yard. At the time it was a newer unit. I installed it and never had an issue since.
