Wow you can actually see the machined portion of the crank where the rod should be, so that means that the rod bolts let loose completely. That's rare, did you over rev it perhaps?

doug im not sure. i been very happy with the car since you tuned it. i guess it happens once in a while. i was reved out in 3rd about to switch to 4th and it happened so fast and shut down. I'm trying to decide what to do without over spending but also don't want it to happen again. my luck it is. just finished replacing one long block 7.4 mercruiser in my boat myself 2 weeks ago now this. i spoke to chris and he gave me Brian number at late model for some options.

Without having it torn down in front of me to see if there is further damage, I would say you could repair the block block with welding and do a short block. Being that it would be out I would recommend rod and piston replacement and go. I'm not sure off the top of my head what the blocks go for now, if one could be found reasonable enough then just replace the short block entirely.

Funny, I'm about to pull my Merc 502 also. "Break Out Another Thousand"..

boats are as bad as they say if not worse. I'm getting good at the boats. i don't build the engines though. my friend wants to talk me into removing the car engine ourselves to get it done and save some money. this was very unexpected. I'm not sure if its a good idea or will become a headache. i know you guys are good at i and i would definitely have you tune it when Its done either way.

i was also curious what the car would be worth the way it is and if anyone buys anything like that. i would maybe consider something different maybe a c7. but for sure will will keep it and fix it before i would even think giving it away for some low ball offer.
