I have a 2013 GS that I track. The gear indicator in the HUD is hard to see in sunlight and completey disappears when I have sunglasses on. I have searched the forum and see that a gear indicator will show up in the DIC when the Nav is being used. However, the indicator comes and goes. I need something more reliable. Can access the trans computer and possibliby build something with LEDs. I will try anything to solve the issue.
I have the same issue with gear indicator, I don't even use the HUD (too small) I've been looking for a digital or LED gear indicator but no success yet, will keep looking.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow of it showing gear #s like you're looking for. It can show all kinds of stuff... ignition timing, fuel trims, gear #, oil temp, transmission oil temp, etc. Super neat device.
Like this for example:

Here's a video or two.. first one is of one of the configurations that comes with the device, the second video is how I've set it up. It has a switch on it so you can switch between 3 different profiles. It may take a few minutes before the quality comes up.. Looks like YouTube is still processing them
Custom config I did. Very few labels, just info... so some probably won't make a lot of sense. I've added a wideband O2 sensor and fuel pressure sensor, so it's displaying info from both of those too
True.. It's hard to get good video of the HUD display but it's customizable as well.. same idea, except you get two lines to work with on it, so that gives you a little more space
Can also set alarms based on just about anything. I have one for knock over 3* and another if I'm too lean while boost is over 3psi for example. Pretty badass.
And...lol...it will also control your NPP exhaust valves (open/closed) via the mirror control switch if you haven't already pulled the fuse or installed the "Mild to Wild" remote switch.
