so I bought a 5 point torx set on ebay and swapped out the Maf sensor but same problem so I put my OEM air filter back in have had no codes so far seems to be the K&N filter flows too much air?
Anyway I have an appointment for a Dyno tune and will install the K&N for the tune.
It's just so weird that it keeps coming bak. Do you just clear the codes? Or reflash your ECM every time? See mine happened every time I would reflash the ECM but once clear the code without reflashing it would never happen
Card style MAF's are especially sensitive to airflow changes. MAF's are only measuring a sample of the air, not all of it.. so just it flowing differently can change the MAF readings from what GM saw with OEM filters
I can tell you from experience, these Corvettes are very particular when is comes to inlet airflow. When you make changes to the factory setup the MAF is likely seeing a change it is trying to compensate for. Pulling lean codes on both banks supports this. Check your fuel trims. I they increase as you increase speed I would suspect the K&N setup as the culprit.
Good Luck OP. I'm sure the K&N filter is on snugly, and no extra air is bypassing the filter element.
If it does, then it will cause a CEL due to incorrect air/fuel ratio.
My son recently had an issue with his. He found that the filter housing had come loose. He re-tightened, and the codes cleared.
I wonder why the Vararam CAI never gives any issues to the C6 when it's installed? The computer seems to be able to change to adapt to the increased air flow at speed.
That's a vacuum leak code most of the time. Retrace your steps installing the air filter...did you remove the air cleaner? Perhaps not get it fully reinstalled? Knocking a vacuum line off normally won't be enough of a leak to set the code, the code comes up when the car needs more than 25% of fuel added to maintain stoiometric.
Sometimes folks will get their air filters too oiled and the oil fouls the maf sensor. Any chance this happened? You should probably pull the maf and clean it with maf cleaner but be careful it's a sensitive device with thin wires down in there.
I was getting po171 code and every time I’d clear it would come back about 3 days later. I found a hole in the hose on my PCV valve on my 2001 base corvette. Replaced the hose and cleared the code....no more problem.
