Been in the market for a clean C6. Looked at one yesterday, very clean car in great condition. During the test drive I noticed two issues. One was that the clutch very close to the floor, almost no travel. I was able to pull it up with my foot and then the clutch appeared to be fine... Second issue was a strange noise that was RPM dependent and appears to be coming from behind the dashboard or under the dash. The noise sounds like a fan going bad, or like a baseball card in a bicycle wheel. The noise only occurs when you are in gear and accelerating. If you put the car in neutral while coasting you will not hear the noise. Any ideas? I want to pull the trigger on the car, hoping someone has an idea of what the issue might be.
It's a one owner car 25k miles. I did look at master cylinder, fluid was a bit dirty and the master cylinder appears to be under allot of pressure. When I attempted to open the MC fluid began to leak out.
The noise under or behind the dash was only under acceleration, and was louder depending on RPM.
Problem #1 is likely the clutch master. GM has a program where they will replace the master for free within the first 120K miles. This thread has more information:
Thanks, it probably is something with the master cylinder. The vbuzzing/rattling seems to go away when take out of gear. It sounds like when a fan motor is going bad, just a slight buzzing near dashboard or lower drivers dash area. The sound one happens when accelerating or driving, however then your release the transmissions and put in neutral sound goes away. Was thinking small exhaust leak or something. Didn't drive it enough to pinpoint isises, not sure of that should DQ the car for me.
