My experience has been this is a common problem, and it happened to me. Unfortunately, there are a number of parts in the shifter mechanism that wear out and cause the problem we've both experience. Unfortunately, those parts are only replaceable by replacing the entire unit. There are a couple of work arounds to get moving! The problem with them is stoping and putting the shifter in pak. Bite the bullet and get it fixed!

Check out Curt D's link Google. I did mine several months ago, problem permanently solved. The whole job took about 45 minutes taking my time. there are also several posts here on the Forum and YouTube on DYI.
