Default High Flow Cats

I need to replace my cats on my Hinson H pipe. I plan to cut the old ones out and weld in new ones. Any recommendations on a good high flow cat?

I've had LG Motorsports hi flow cats for about 4 years and zero problems. LG told me that they take about 5hp.

I think Random Technologies has a bolt in set.
For welding LG could be the price leader.

Random Technology has been around forever, and makes good quality Hi-flow cats.

Yeah, just replace them with straight pipes. Then you don't have to worry about replacing them again and you get more HP.

Dave really?? Makes you gag??? Overreaction. Your car either had some other issues or it was the headers or exhaust you had. Mine doesn't have much of a smell. Honestly. Man up.

How did you kill the old ones?

Running too fat, or did you mange to push oil through them to clog them/ blow the honey combs out instead??

Hence until you burn/chip/wear the noble coatings (P+R, P+P) off the ceramic honey comb sub straights, should be able to clean them out if they are just clogged isntead.

I never said you were the "only one" that complains about a smell. I've read several replies about a smell. I've also read several that they don't notice much of a smell or don't mind the smell. Hell I've got a damn good life man. I'm very blessed. I mean my car has no cats and doesn't have much of a bad smell. Which means it sounds awesome and I'm not loosing HP and won't have to replace any cats in the future. How blessed is that?

You're the one that quoted me say I was wrong first dude. You insinuated that all cars with out cats will smell so bad that it will make you gag. That's the fact here. Your wrong and if you can't take being corrected then you not only need to man up but grow up too.

I guess nothing wrong with running leaded fuels in Alabama as well?

Hence the only reason I can see for not running high flow cats (only about a 4hp loss with high flow cats) and dealing with the unburnt fuel smell , is you are running leaded fuel that would kill the cats isntead.

No Dano I run Unleaded 93 octane. I run ethanol free 93 sometimes. Alabama has no emissions inspections. All I’m saying here is from my experience and the truth. Not my opinion or something I read on the forum or anywhere else. I’ll say this 1 more time and then I’ll leave it to all the exhaust experts on here. I’m just trying to give the people asking about cats vs no cats that true information.
The only time I notice any smell is if my car is running while backed into my garage and I’m inside the garage. And even then it is not a so called terrible gaging smell. I never smell anything if car is running outside even if I’m outside the car and I never smell it inside the car. And I do have a sense of smell. I personally know people and have even read post on this forum of people having to replace cats for whatever reason. Now I in no way claim to know more about how cats work or how they go bad as you or several other people on here. All I’m saying is IF you live in a state that doesn’t have emission inspections why not at least try and go no cats so you do not loose the 4-6 HP and do not have to replace the cats ever? Then if the smell is so terrible that you can’t take it then by all means put some cats on.
Instead of going by what I SUSPECT SOME people are saying is a terrible smell because they listened and put on cats so that has to be the best thing to do and don’t really know how bad the smell is. Im not accusing anyone of this. I’m sure some cars do smell stronger and some people are more sensitive. But I want my car to be a hot rod and perform as best it can or I can afford so if I have to put up with a little smell when I’m in the garage then I will. Everyone needs to make up their own minds.

Apologizes to you Dano if my reply sounded like I was frustrated with you. I am not. It’s just that I’ve said this several times on several threads on here on the same subject. I respect you and your knowledge. You helped me with my relay/fuse box issue and I thank you again for that.

I have very minimal fuel smell with no cats... I had a strong smell when my primary O2s were reacting slowly... (old, not throwing code). Once i swapped them, the smell cleared up instantly.

No worries, but I try to be kind to the older couple out for a drive, stuck behind me at a stop light/down wind that could be odor funked out instead.

So even if you are not sticking up your own car cabin at the stop light (e85 odor is not as bad as petrol odor, but is not the sweet smell of race fuel), the couple behind you may have the same luck as you.

As a side note, as a lad in the summers at my grand parents house (since they lived in a small town and only had the one car), my grand mother would get bored being at the the house all week, and would have my grandfather take her for drives around the town during the weekends; which she got great pleasure in nothing more than just being taken for a drive around the town now and again.

This has always stuck with me through the years, and refuse to be "That Guy", that would ruin such a "Simples in life" for a couple out for nothing more than a leisure drive; for the simple pleasures of it alone.

Or you could be "That Guy, blowing your cigar smoke in a strangers babies face.

Dano, I really don't know how many times I need to say that I can only smell exhaust from my car if it is running backed into my garage and I'm in the garage??? So I don't believe I'll be ruining any couples leisure drive.
And I don't smoke or blow anything in anybody's face. Much less a strangers baby. So you can rest well tonight ok?

I bought my grand sport modded with a cat delete and the exhaust smell is unbearable

The fel mileage is good, its nota bad tune, its just ridiculously bad when your stopped at traffic or idling

I am considering going with high flow cats , what is the best brand to go with? I have 3 inch mid pipes as far as I know

I bought Hinson Headers and got their cats with it. Not sure if they actually make the cats but they didn't last long. They broke up after about a year. I didn't have a bad smell when they broke up.. I bought Kooks high flow cats as a replacement and they seem to be ok after a little over a year.

If you are just going to cut the old ones out and weld in new ones I'd go with the universal Magnaflow.
