Default C6 Brake Upgrades

Looking to upgrade my 2009 brakes. New to this site, done a lot of searches, but not finding what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a system for street use and occasional track use. Would like any suggestions you have. Not looking to spend $3000 for the best, just a reasonable upgrade to the stock brakes without getting a second mortgage. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I was looking for the same thing but it seems there's a bit of difference between a street pad and track pad. Track pads take a bit of heat to effectively stop the car and can produce noticeable amounts of dust. Street pads aren't great at handling high heat from track events (not sure which ones you are planning on doing) but some can be found that are quiet and don't produce much dust. Seems quite a few people on here have pads they switch back and forth from street to track when needed. This is most likely the route I'll go. I've heard great things about the 1521 Carbotech for the street but they are a bit pricey. I was also hoping to find the magical pad that would be great on the street and useable on the track but I haven't found it yet. Let me know what you decide to go with!

You can do Baer 2 piece rotors and a great set of pads for not much money.

Dave. most likely your calipers are fine. So basically what you need is rotors and pads. Are you willing to swap pads for track day and what tire will you be using? As always you can just call me at 216-780-8825 to discuss.

Brakes go hand in hand with tire grips.

So what tires are you going to run, and what type of track use?
Hence autocross or beginner HPDE on street tires that are on the car now, are we talking the full Monty of running R7's on a high speed road course instead.

Also, what model c6, hence base, z51 option, or something like a Z06 instead.

Welcome to the forum BA.

There are no magical pads that do everything.

Believe it or not, the OEM pads can do both, but limited track use, ie, not much beyond the Novice and low intermediate if you can keep them cool enough. I've taken mine to advanced intermediate but with the stock GS cross drilled rotors, the holes fill up with pad material during your run session.

The Ceramics are good for street and autocross but I would never do a track day with them, not even a Novice group class.

Carbotech is one manufacturer that takes some of the work out of the pad dilemma, you can use their ceramics on the street then swap to a track pad for those track days plus they have a wide range of pads you can swap to as your skills grow. Their pad materials are compatible meaning a minimal amount of rotor preparation when swapping pads. Using incompatible pad materials will lead to unpredictable results - exactly the thing you are trying to avoid in the track environment. By using a too aggressive track pad can easily over power your street tires or the wrong tire since they work hand-in-hand. That translates to a lot of ABS use and ABS isn't the most efficient way around a race track. Almost forgot, one other aspect regarding Carbotech is the use non corrosive materials which is easier on your rims. I've never had a problem with them. They are also made in the USA if that matters.

You've come to the right place though, KNS and Adam are good vendors and will steer you in the right direction. There are other vendors here too that will be happy to help.

I guess I should have been more accurate with my original post. I'm interested in a complete upgrade, rotors, pads and calipers if needed. Can I install a Z51 setup and keep my current stock wheels? I'm looking for something great for the street, spirited driving. I want it to stop on a dime. I'd like to do some track nights on road courses. I am a former autocross, road course and police pursuit instructor, so I'm going to push it to the limits.

Awesome BA! It's hard to know who writes these posts. I had an'08 Z51 optioned car. My suggestion is to upgrade to the Z51 calipers, upgrade to the DBA rotors unless you want to go the full Big Brake Package which will bring another set of headaches. I would then go with CarboTech Bobcats for street, then do a pad swap for track, XP10's in front, XP8's in rear. Do slotted rotors, not cross drilled. The DBA's work well. It you go to Rz-Comp tires, everything can change as far as brakes go. Also, Motul Dot 4 brake fluid, you can find it at a motorcycle shop if needed.

If your going to push that hard on the street the XP10 front XP8 rear will work great. Even better with a little heat in them. Yes you may sound like a bus at times but you will be stopping.
