So I bought a 2005 a year ago, I've been driving it since July (about 3k miles) with zero issues except for an annoying whine that I always assumed was valvetrain or something with the accessories until I actually researched it this weekend and found out it was a cam/lifter whine. I read it was mainly caused when swapping in a Comp cam that had slight chatter on the lobes. But this car looked to be completely stock when I got it down to the air cleaner.
I guess my question is can I just drive it as is or is this something that needs to be fixed. I really don't feel like tearing into it just to fix an annoying whine. And I'm perfectly happy with the power it already has with bolt ons and I really don't have no need to get a performance cam for it.
Same sound here varies with the skinny pedal, i asked around about my whine and was told it’s the throttle body. Sub’d to hear what others have to say.
From what I've researched, cam whine has a very distinct sound to it and I don't think it could really be anything else. There are a bunch of videos on the net of engines with cam whine that sound exactly like mine. I'll try to post a link to a video here. It's obviously not my car but sounds identical.
I also held a stethoscope up to it and the sound is coming from the block/head. That's kinda funny you said throttle body because It's one of the few spare parts I have laying around in the shop! The TB an easy enough job, it wouldn't hurt to swap it out quick and see.
