Mine did the same. I still have the 10mm wrench in the console. I swapped out the negative terminal with a wingnut attachment so I didn't have to dick with the wrench because it happened so often.
My column lock kept screwing up as well. I bought the eliminator kit that's been well posted and removed the mechanism inside the column and it hasn't happened since. I'm convinced the steering column lock issue was the whole problem.
There is a fix for the column lock with firmware if you have, or have access to, a tech2 programmer. I do not.
