Default Steering rack on 2008

Steering rack on my 2008 C6 started leaking. After much research, I figured that 2005-2007 has one rack, then 2008 has unique rack, then 2009-2013 has the other rack. Turn One confirmed this.
Correct part number for me is 19330457. But it is slowly going out of stock now. New ones discontinued long time ago, remanufactured units also disappear.

All dealers and Corvette shops in my area suggest to get part number 36R0421 (aka 19320519), also remanufactured. It is aftermarket replacement unit, not originally installed by GM into any Corvette. However, guides show that it is replacement for 2005-2010, which does not make at all. I could understand 2005-2007, or 2005-2008, or just universal fit replacement. But 2010 does not make any sense.
Does anyone have experience with 36R0421?

I know that the best alternative is to send my unit to Turn One, but it's just not feasible, because the car would have to stay at a shop for one month.
I also consider buying a rack from wrecked 2008 car, and sending this to Turn One. It may not be ideal, because wrecked car will most likely have more miles than my car.

Sounds like you already talked to Turn One. Did you explore alternatives with them? I know they posted about a year ago that they do offer core exchange where they will find a core and rebuild it. Might be more costly than you finding a core and sending to them, don't know though.

IMO, Turn One is your best bet. There were just too many changes to the steering over the years to risk some "one size fits all" replacement. Good luck.

They did not offer any core exchanges. They even did not recommend buying an unknown core on Ebay, because chances are it came not from 2008 car. As they said, even in 2008 some amount of cars got 2005-2007 rack by accident from factory, which supposedly did not work and resulted in broken steering.

I was hoping to hear anything about current official replacement 36R0421 (aka 19320519). Perhaps someone had experience with it.

Let us know how this steering rack issue turns out, because I and others may benefit from the knowledge.

Where is the rack leaking from? One of the sides or is it leaking from the hole the sensor wire comes out of?

If it's leaking from the sensor hole there is a diy fix for that:

IIRC, the only difference between the '08 and the "09-'13 is the method used to cut the gears. You can search for the video shot at the NCM during the time of the '09 introduction, which explains the method and the differences.
Personally, I'd be looking for a used one taken from a non-frontal collision car if I needed a replacement for my used car.

Default 2008 rack

The electronic assist part of the rack is unique to the 2008 that’s why the other race will not work. They will not talk to the ECM, has nothing to do with the cut of the gears. Funny how all the big corvette center lost the rack as universal for all years
