Default 2006 a6 auto need help

I have browsed the forums over and over and I cAnt find a solution to my problem I hope that I am not missing it and if I Am I apologize this definitely is not a post without any research. I have a 2006 auto with an a and a kit and arh headers went to dyno tune the other day and one the o2 extensions slipped down and rested on where the headers merge and caught fire the tuner put water on it within 10 seconds and then all hell broke loose. The car I believe is in a limp mode or maybe something else it starts and idles fine I disconnected the 02 sensor and pulled that out of harms way so I have codes for that otherwise no other codes but when I put into d, s or s with paddles it stays in fourth gear and won’t shift to any other gears besides park and n. Also when in paddle mode the HUD shows gear as 4 and then flickers quickly between 3/4 non stop. I put car on lift disconnected battery and reconnected nothing changed, I looked at the wire harnesses in that area and no other ones seem to have burned through or even look that bad at all but I’m at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

So did you change the burned sensor also look at your shifter cable as some body actuates it and see if is ruined mine went south at about 24.5 k miles and left me stranded at the mall.

thanks for the reply yes I got my new sensor I changed to a new battery voltage up where it should be was lower then it should been so was worth it to rule it out, I also cleaned all the ground in engine bay on the block and in the back of the car. Seems a little better but still issues. I will look into cable and also what I’m following now is maybe an issue with a speed sensor. I’ll see what I can find out other wise I’m dropping the pan tmr. Thanks again

so I checked fluid levels good fluid is dark but not horrible Nd doesn’t smell burnt. The car goes into reverse fine and n and drive as well. Will go but starts off in 4th no matter what. What would cause this and the glitching issue when trying to shift rapidly cycling back and forth through 3/4

You said the O2 extension wire caught fire ..... and then you said you got a new O2 sensor.

But, did you replace the extension wire that connects to the wire coming out of the new O2 sensor?

From what you wrote, that is what will need to be replaced ... These O2 extension wires are available from lots of vendors.

Sure the engine will go in the 'Limp Home Mode' if the computer is not getting a reliable signal from either of the front O2 sensors.

The car don't need the rear O2 sensors to run, but it sure does need the front O2 sensors .... that don't have burned wires connected to them !

So I had a nightmare with this and I finally talked to someone who had same issue and I brought the car against his will as he thought I was being a kid using the internet to go on a wild goose chase to fix it without research but I met up with the tuner and had him set it to stock tune the car shifted flawlessly from there on out
