OK, you mean the air filter assembly. That box is called a Helmholtz chamber. On the LS3's it increased torque a small amount. On the 427's it did nothing. That is why its only on the LS3's. It also quiets down the intake air flow. I guess that on the Z06's, they didnt care if it was louder.

The air intake Helmholtz chamber can be removed with a hacksaw and the hole plugged with $5 of parts and plastic cement from your local hardware stores plumbing department. Then you basically have a Z06 intake on a beer budget :-)

Is this really that much better than the ones you can get on Amazon for around $30.00 - $35.00?
I looked at the generic catch cans and didn't want to spend the time figuring out where to mount it and fabricating brackets. One of the main reasons I went with the Elite was it had a very simple and clean install.

One thing not mentioned in any of the install procedures was to try to protect the 2 hoses that pass close to the can. In fact, they will touch the side or bottom of the can if left alone. Since the can is bolted to the engine by way of the bracket, common sense tells me there is going to be some vibration and motion transmitted to the can. Over time, that might damage the hoses, so I wrapped some electricians tape around the hoses in those areas, and used a couple of zip ties to pull them away from the can. I've got silicon hoses now, so they are flexible enough, but I did the same for the OEM hoses prior to the silicon set being installed. So far, so good.
