Good day everyone. I just bought a 2005 Vette with 50,000 miles. It was a one owner and seems to have been well taken care of. However, i discovered loose battery harness cables and was getting a number of error messages like: "Shocks inoperative", "ABS brake system not workiing", Low Fuel, and a number of other things. The engine light came on as well. I had the battery checked and it was bad so I replaced it, and we tightened up the cables. It seemed to work then a couple days later it happened again but this time it also seemed to affect the way the car was running, almost like some of the cylinders were not firing. If I turn it off, it will not start for a little while, then all of a sudden it will start again. When it resolves, everything works fine, it runs well, and all messages go away but then a day or two later it all happens again. Any advice??? I live in Myrtle Beach, SC so if anyone knows of a good person to work on it here, I am all ears. I love the car and think this is probably simple if we can just track down the problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
Like most things with the C6 when you have multiple electrical problems it seems to be usually due to a bad battery (which you replaced), loose connections, or bad grounds. I'd proceed on to step two check the connectors (on the BCM in particular) and the grounds.
PS: I own a 05 Z51 Mn6 and you have purchased an awesome car. Welcome to the forum.
As Dutch08 noted, check all the grounds & also the connectors to the ECM & BCM. Also, there should be cone shaped washers under the nuts on the battery terminal connectors. Over time, these seem to get lost & without them you may not get sufficiently tight connections at the terminals.
I have an '06 with 48k miles on it. They are great cars, but electrical problems can piggyback on each other. I suggest putting a code reader on it. The codes will tell the story.
