Default Coolant question

I have a 2013 GS with 50k miles. I have a little bit of what looks like fine dirt particles in the surge tank. Very minor. Will a flush of the system take care of this? I’m thinking a pressure test to make sure everything is ok. Maybe think about replacing the water pump and thermostat. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything more serious. Oil looks fine. Anything else I should be checking out? I’ll be taking it somewhere to get this done, just have to research a reputable shop.

You didn't provide any information on how long you have owned the car or when the last time that you changed the coolant. But assuming you are not the original owner & do not know when the coolant has been changed if ever, the time is now. Maintenance schedule for coolant change is every 5 years or 150k miles. If you are not leaking coolant and no problems with the coolant operating temperature, you can defer changing these until needed. The How-Tos section has the following aid:

It's normal for contaminents to adhere to the surge tank. When you drain your system, remove the surge tank, and put crushed ice in the tank and shake it around. This will dislodge the discoloration inside the tank and clean it. Once it is clean, reinstall the tank and do your flush and coolant change out.

Or add gin and a little vermouth and make martinis. Shaken, not stirred.
