Doing stuff like the heads decked starts bringing the price much too high, I'm already over budget.

I found a speed shop that will do the whole thing for $3500, new BTR cam, new LS7 lifters, and a tune but I'm guessing they will just be re-using my old oil pump, water pump, etc.
Those gaskets are chinese made junk...I wouldn't put those in a mini-bike let alone an LS engine.
Save your money until you have enough to upgrade everything at once...with quality parts.
I probably wouldn't spend money on a cam install and calibration just to have it choked by the oem exhaust manifolds/cats/exaust. And if your car is an auto anything larger than stage 1 will probably surge and buck etc without an upgraded stall converter.

Agree. Stick with genuine GM parts or other name brand like Felpro etc.

I ran a very similar cam in my LS7. It was a Comp, but with the LS7s 1.8 rockers, it spec'd out like this:
Lift Intake: .638"
Lift Exhaust: .646"
Duration@.050" lift I: 238°
Duration@.050" lift E: 242°
LSA 114°

It made 617hp@6,300rpm, and 565ft/lbs Torque@5,000rpm.
