Default A6 question

Does anyone know if they make a hose kit that will hook directly to your existing transmission lines to bypass the radiator cooler and go straight to the aftermarket cooler . The cooler has -6 an fittings Thanks in advance.

To directly answer your question: The fittings permanently attached to the lines are male GM quick-connect fittings. The female quick-connect sides that are removable from the radiator are male (if I remember correctly) -6 (or maybe -8) O-Ring Boss (ORB) fittings. One could purchase a female -6 ORB to standard -6 AN fitting to connect to a standard hose, if one so desired.

But, you don't want to do this. Fluid should flow from the trans to the rad to the aftermarket cooler and back to the trans. This serves several purposes: ideal trans fluid temperature is 160-190 °F, and running with only an aftermarket cooler will result in very long warmup times that will cause either boring driving or increased clutch wear. Additionally, the cooler in the rad provides extra fluid volume, which is always good.

From experience, I can tell you that if you're overheating with the rad cooler in the loop, you will almost certainly still overheat without it. If you suspect that your trans is running hot because your coolant is hot, you probably need more cooling for the engine coolant. So, you either need more trans cooler, more radiator, or both.

I'm running H/C/I/E/meth, stalling at 3400 with a 2.56 rear end in south LA, ambient ~100 °F with 90%+ humidity, and my setup doesn't exceed 190 °F regardless of how I drive. Plus, I can drive the car in 40 °F weather without waiting 30 minutes for the trans fluid to come up. DeWitts rad + D3PE fans/shroud + Setrab trans fluid cooler/fanpack + thermostat will get you to daily-driving cooling nirvana at probably any sane power level in any US climate.
