Finally ordered headers, went with ARH 1 7/8”. Ordered from Randy at ragin racin. Very easy guy to do business with. Also going to be ordering blacked out side markers but forgot to order something for the tunnel temperatures. What do you guys recommend for something to keep the tunnel temps down? I am not looking for something to reduce cabin noise, only need something for heat and don’t want to add a bunch of weight to the car either.

I'm waiting on green cats for my Kooks 1-7/8" and will be putting on an Elite Engineering 1/4" tunnel plate. I also got a big sheet of Relfect-A-Cool to cover as much as I can around the exhaust. I hope it gets better than what it is now with stock exhaust and not much of a barrier.

I bought something from LG motorsports about 10+ years ago. Expensive but fits nice and it works. They still sell it for about $300+.

It should, looking back at my c5 I didn’t realize it had a heat shield. So when I test drove my c6 I was surprised how much warmer the trans tunnel area was. Makes sense now. The c5 you couldn’t feel any heat in the trans area or center console.

Congrats on the header purchase. I'm curious what made you go with ARH headers. I know you were considering SE(you and I both had good experiences on other cars).

I recommend the Elite Engineering insulation kit for around $150 or go ahead and purchase their insulated tunnel plate for around $330. I bought the insulation kit and made my own plate from 1/4" AL and sold my OEM plate. I suspect the insulation makes more of a difference than the thicker plate.

Yup ... this 1/4" thick aluminum / insulated tunnel plate will certainly lower the temp from the headers entering the cabin ... and the aluminum plate is twice as thick as the stock non-insulated plate.

And the perfect time to install it is when you have the exhaust system out of the car for a header install (easy job then).

Speed engineering weren’t in stock and I got a wicked good price on the ARH. I also found that most shops doen here refuse to install them. They’re gonna be here Tuesday which I wasn’t planned for, was expecting 1-2 months. Now I’m scrambling trying to find other stuff in stock with quick shipping.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I'm looking forward to keeping an eye on your progress.

Default Tunnel heat

I had my LG super pro headers and off road x pipe coated by swain tech. It seemed to help. I atleast don't think it is any hotter with the headers then it was before, and actually I think it's been reduced a little.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am not going to coat the headers. I don’t like the way it looks and haven’t personally seen any that have held up. I had non coated headers in my c5 and never had tunnel heat issues.
