.. the dang column lock but I just ordered a by pass for it from Corvette mods…. Should I worry of how long this will take, will I need antique plates by then, too old to push in the clutch by the time I get it…?

The steering column lock eliminators are just a band aid's for the actual lock device, but sooner or later, its the actual module that will ***** the bed next.

So correct method to solve the problem, is to just reflash the BCM to take the lock and module out of play themselves.
TDS subscription is $40 for 24 months, and anyone with a MDI or GM nano can give you a hand reflashing the BCM to solve the problem.
Note, the GM method is to change out the steering column lock ring to one that the lock will not lock when doing the flash, but if you just un-plug the steering column lock in the unlocked postion, will do the same thing.

Yup, both companies are owned by the same guy.

Lots and lots of negative reviews.

Foothill Ranch Chevrolet performed the steering column recall on my 2000 and permanently destroyed the lower telescoping steering wheel cover because of simple ignorance, they pulled the cover off without unscrewing it and it flops about now. What a **** show. It was crazy, in addition, Foothill Ranch Chevrolet refused to replace the lower steering column cover even though they caused the damage but to their defense, GM doesn't and and has never produced any replacement lower telescoping steering wheel covers for a 2000 vert, all the replacement covers are non-telescoping units. I have a salty spot for the shady GM retailer for causing the issue and GM itself for not providing a parts resource. My advise is, if you have a telescoping steering wheel, be very careful when replacing the steering lock fix as there are no "correct" replacement lower shrouds available for telescoping wheels.

Separately, I also had a negative experience with Corvettemods and will never order from them again.

The TSB referred to (18-NA-346) is specific to 2005 model year with manual transmission.

There are two parts to it... 1) replacement of the steering column lock plate to free the steering wheel - no more locking, and 2) flash BCM to eliminate steering column module functionality - no more monitoring.

IF you have already freed your steering wheel as part of the by pass module install, then there is no need for (1) above. Many dealerships will perform (2) above for +/- $100 range. The $600 usually quoted for the TSB is primarily due to labor for (1). It is nice not to need to worry about the bypass module going bad, once step (2) is done it is not required. The 2005 column lock functionality is eliminated completely.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

Although not on his webpage, C6 column bypasses are available. Call and talk to Richard. http://www.complianceparts.com/lmc5ataglance.html

Well, four days after I ordered the by pass from Corvette mods, I received it in the mail today, so far so good, I’ll have to wait and install this till when I address the HUD issue though..

Isn't it amazing how the TSB comes out post warranty or extended warranty period although this stupid issue has been around since the beginning. I noticed it states in bold, "Customer must be advised this is not covered under warranty." I wrote up a detailed instruction and pics that were posted here years ago on how to change the SCL before the bypass was invented. It left me stranded more than a few times while I sat like an idiot pushing the start button on and off until it would fire. I have the bypass installed, but I will probably go ahead and do the flash to fix it for good.

Thanks for posting that TSB because I was unaware of it.

On a side note, is there a TSB for the shift to reverse or drain the battery fiasco?

TSB came out when GM not longer had SLC or SLCM to replace the bad ones.

But agree, the reflash and no locking ring resolve should have come a lot sooner when the locks where a know problem and only lasting a few years each time they where replaced, instead of waiting until there was no more new locks to sell instead.

I've put in the bypass module and when the temperature drops into the low 70's I get the error! Going to get the dealer to flash the module. It will start after a few presses on the start button or warmer weather! It is a new battery and the terminals are really clean too! Any comments will be welcome.
