so if GM and just bumped copression to let say 11.5 to 1 then maybe we would have seen better results overall

That's the glitch, and when the LS3 was designed, it's compression was lowered due to the norm of the highest octane rating on most pumps being 91 octane only (down from the 93 that was offered at the pumps before hand just a few years before hand in most states).
