Default Pf48/pf48e

Just did the first oil and filter change on my new to me '07 vert, The book at Walmart and the manual tell me to use AC Delco PF48E; however, the old filter was a PF48. And the only ones I could find were PF48, so that's what went back on.
Probably a dumb question, but what is the difference between a PF48E and a PF48?
Sorry if this has been covered before (couldn't find it during my searching).

The original PF48 was replaced by the PF48E ... The problem is that the PF48 was a good filter with metal parts inside ... The new replacement PF48E is a poor quality filter with cheap plastic parts inside.

So, what is there to do if you still want a quality ACDelco filter ?

Get the more expensive UPF48R filter. It's all metal inside and has a higher burst pressure that either the original PF48, or the replacement PF48E.

Both the discontinued PF48 and the inferior new PF48E are colored blue ... The better UPF48R is colored black

BTW ... The UPF48R filter came standard on the LS9, the LS7 and I believe the newer year model LS3's equipped with the dry sump oil system.

In other words, all the C6 engines with the dry sump oil system had the UPF48R filter ... and you can use it on your engine too.

I am surprised that you can find any PF48 filters ... They were discontinued about 6 years ago (give or take).

If it was me, I would buy some ... just make sure that is what you are actually getting

Here's the inside of the oil filters for you to look at. I cut a bunch apart at the time, had a lot of free time recovering from shoulder surgery.

Like I said earlier ... The PF48E filter is a POS !

If you want to stay with the ACDelco filters for your C6, get the UPF48R

You're welcome.

Just a note, the Mobil 1 filters appear to be the same quality as the UPF48R filters, if that's someone's preference. I just mention that because there's sometimes a good Mobil 1 special where you get a jug of oil and a filter for a good price.

That being said, I found some good prices awhile back on the UPF filters online though, plus my local GM dealer. Rockauto & Amazon ring a bell, but I have so many of them in stock now, I haven't searched in a long time.
