Default Upgrade to Z06 EOC thread

My car: 2006 Z51, LS2, in radiator factory EOC and TOC

What are you trying to fix? What car do you have? Engine mods/HP?

My Z51 had an in-radiator EOC. I added about 50HP with bolt-ons and a tune, hitting just over 400HP rear wheels.
My oil temps on track just kept climbing when it was in the 70's or hotter.
Usually I'd get around 280 or so and quit pressing the go pedal until temps backed off.

I was in Kershaw, SC at CMP for a track event this past weekend, temps the entire time were in the 80's/lower 90's and miserable
Oil never got much over 250, oil pressures were unchanged by my eyeball readings.
I'm running 0w-40 Euro Mobil1
Capacity for standard fill went to 7Qts, 8Qts for track work.

You'll need the lines+2 bolts, cooler and (4) shroud mounting bolts (can use bolts from Lowes/HD).
You can still buy the coolers new, but, plenty are available used for $300 (or less) with everything.
The lines can leak at the fittings with age, keep an eye on leaks in general.

nice factory diagram:

Very interesting thread on plumbing the Z06 EOC into the radiator EOC (fixes the no thermostat issue on the stock Z06 cooler in cold weather).

It's an "easy" install - if you want to use the factory lines, then it's a pain fishing them thru to the area beside the radiator but not ridiculous.

A 2nd pair of hands/eyes is a big help! Projects always go better with a friend!

I didn't have to remove the header to get to everything, however, I had to hand tighten the connection at the block with a closed end wrench due to clearance with collector.
I didn't lower the front cradle or loosen the engine mounts either.
I DID remove the driver side wheel liner to get more access and to make it a bit easier to get leverage on inserting the hose ends into the cooler and installing the E-clips.
I've had the shroud out a couple of times, it's easier if you remove the shroud to cut it up, but, you can do the cuts in place using a template and a 1.25" hole saw.
If you use aftermarket flex lines you could install a thermostat on the block mount point and probably have an easier time routing the lines.

VIBRATION is the enemy! Make sure you properly stabilize/secure the lines - the factory lines have a mount to the block that works great.
The radiator cooling fan mount has slots that the factory lines will naturally find when you're doing the final fitment adjustments.
You want to make sure all electrical lines and fluid lines of any sort are stable and not randomly vibrating!!

new kits of the factory cooler are available from a variety of vendors:

Let me know if I can assist!
Greg

I love track days! I go to Road America and have started sorting out this new to me '05. It's a base car and auto, does it have a radiator EOC and TOC?

I've gotten started on adding a stock power steering cooler.

EOC plumbing lines are attached just above the oil filter with a couple of bolts thru a common mounting block to the lines for the factory setup (Z51 or Z06 same).
If you have a cooler, there will be something bolted in above the filter, if not, it will have a block off plate.

The pic of the filter area is to identify the location to mount the cooler lines to the block.

Thank you I will check. The factory EOC looks easy to install I've been watching threads on that. Is there no model that routes the oil to radiator then to air cooler?

I watched some CMP vids, looks like a fun track. Reminds me of Grattan. Are you doing HPDE or racing with a club?

You want the oil to hit the air to oil cooler first, then the radiator oil cooler - oil exiting the radiator to be recirculated back to the engine.
The coolant temp will work to raise the oil temps when it's cold and lower them somewhat when it's hot out.
Hope that makes sense.

Here's me buzzing around CMP:

I just do HPDE's when I have the opportunity.
I've thought about joining VIR club but all the member days are during the week and I still have to work for a living

Ever considered a DeWitts radiator? There is one that has both the trans cooler in the passenger side end-tank and an oil cooler in the drivers-side end-tank. DeWitts also sells the OEM oil cooler lines to connect to the internal oil cooler to the ports above the oil filter on the block.

^ That's what I was thinking for my auto. Dewitts has a model with both coolers and fan.
