Default Cam and Intake

First time poster

i have a 2005 LS2 corvette z51

looking for what I need to add a mild cam and intake

i have seen Cam motion stage 3 or Texas speed cam is affordable. Each come with corresponding hardware.

and I will most likely go with a LSX FAST intake, but what do I need with both to have installed? Hardware, high stall converter, harmonic balancer, 102mm throttle body?

is their a kit or other reccomndation to get in place of anything?

Don't buy a cam based on cost. Buy the cam that fits what you're trying to accomplish. If you don't know what you're doing, selecting a cam can be overwhelming. And the possibility of making an expensive mistake can be high. Get help. Check with Brian Tooley racing or Cam Motion. I use Pat G for help if I'm in an area that I'm not sure about. Summit Racing has a nice line of LS cams that are priced well. Might be worth giving them a call.

Converter choice is going to depend on cam choice. I don't like cams that need a converter even a little bit. Everyone doesn't think like me though. I would replace the crank pulley with a 10% underdriven Powerbond unit. FAST intake manifold is a great one. Money well spent on an LS2. 102mm throttle body is a total waste on a stock cube LS2. Porting your stock throttle for better throttle response, yes.

Not sure what you mean by "hardware". You can save a few bucks if you order a cam "kit". Includes the cam, springs, retainers, locks, seals, etc.

Don’t be afraid of doing a big converter. Yank SS3600 is a great converter for our cars.

I meant hardware as in if I had to buy anything additional, and my mechanic is a client of mine and will not cut corners on quality work or recommended parts, he reccomended BTR cam and LSX FAST intake.

I found a site HAWKMOTORSPORTS that has a head intake and cam kit all in one for 4500$ which includes the 102 mm throttle body and MAF

I think on this build I want to really only do cam and intake manifold and keep the car NA, this is a 6 speed manual I forgot to add so driveability won’t be an issue.

Old Motorhead is right. Get at least two KNOWLEDGEABLE opinions on cams. As for the other post about the 3,600 Yank, like camshaft selection, a lot depends on how you use the car....That's a lot of stall. I run a Yank 3,200, and I love it. However, I just returned from the Blue Ridge Parkway. You usually can't drive fast enough on the Parkway to get the converter to lock up. If it doesn't lock on a high stall converter, you'll get might hot trans fluid, quickly!! I have a good sized B&M cooler, plus whatever cooling the radiator can provide. Within 1/2 hour, I was seeing 235° trans fluid temps. This was in 65°-70° ambient temps. An aftermarket electronic lockup controller wouldve helped, Im sure, and is an option that could help. The higher the stall, the hotter the trans fluid gets. Hope this helps.....
