I'm looking at options for tires. I bought a 2008 coupe with a BTR stage 3 cam, headers, and tune. It hasn't been dyno tested yet, but probably close to 500HP. It has Hankook tires on it that are over 10 years old. It's time for a new set. They are in OK shape for tread, but time for new shoes. Right now, the rears will break loose very easy. I think that is because the tires are old. I had a 2005 that had Michelin Sport A/S3. They did great, but the car had less power. I plan on going to some track day events, so I would like something that grips well. I'm not a racecar driver. I'm not to the point I need a track set and a street set, but if someone had an old set they wanted to part with at a reasonable price, I would consider it. I don't want to break the bank on a set of tires, but I know they are not going to be cheap.
What are peoples thoughts?
Two top summer tire options in my opinion are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and Continental ExtremeContact Sport. From several different reviews, videos, and user forum posts, the Continentals seem to have an edge in wet traction and road noise. The Michelins seem to have the edge in dry grip and responsiveness. The Continentals are cheaper.
I personally am leaning towards getting a set of the Continentals for my GS.
I’m with Spaceme I’m running Continental Extreme Contact Sports .And when I wear them out I will be buying them back . They really pull pretty good in 3rd and fourth gear for a summer tire.and this is from a man who got tired of buying drag radial.
I have Kumho Ecsta high performance tires on mine. They will dead hook above 70 degrees.
below 50 they don’t hook a lick. Bought them 3 years ago for $600 mounted and balanced.
Kind of the same boat. 08 base w/cam and bolt ons.
I just had my Evo 12s removed after 11 years. I went with Continental Extreme Contact Sports. Not even a comparison on the ride and how they took compared to the old rocks that were on it.
I am in almost the exact circumstances as the OP. Have 505 hp to the wheel and a 7 year old tire that is n't gripping (and I also came from an 05 base, go figure).
Continental Extreme Contact Sports are what I plan on going with, and I have a stock 19X12 Z06 rim on my GS. It's a 325/30R19, Michelin Pilot Sport.
My question is, can I go with a 345 for more width? From what I am reading on certain sites the answer is yes, but was hoping for input or experience from you guys. All I seem to find in this width is Street/Racetrack tires, and I drive late in the season and I worry these will not perform well below 50 degrees.

I ran 345's rear and 285 fronts on my 2013 GS using stock Z06 rims. The wider tires had the same aspect ratio as the stockers. So, as well as being wider front and rear, they were also slightly taller front and rear. The nannies were happy. No rubbing on either end. That's the one thing I miss about my current narrow body vs the previous GS. Those 345 meats across the back were just badass.

Hey thanks for the reply! Appreciate it very much.
Hello I am also not a race driver and do not yet want 2 sets of wheels/tires on a my C6 that sees limited driving.
I bought a set of TSW 19" front and 20" rear wheels for my 2008 Z51 and have the Michelin ZP Pilot top of the line AS/3 tires and I'm pleased with them.
I drive in competition mode and in the real world with pebbles on the road you will have sudden loss of perfect traction when this occurs.
Similar to "running in the marbles" typically up high or on a spot of a race track less travelled.
Having said that I noticed lousy traction when I accelerated the other day and it was a few "pea gravel" pieces of the road common this time of the year with road maintenance crews driving hot tar / rock trucks around every street patching holes in roads.
Old tires are as useless for fast driving as brakes that have not been recently serviced and bled with quality brake fluid.
Why invite disaster to you, your great C6 and others on the road ?
My handling improved alot with the mentioned upgraded "ZR1 Appearance package" as they call my mods on a 2015 C7 Vette.
'05 MT z51, 228/228 cam, ARH catted headers, cai, tune on 93. Made roughly 435/430 on a dynojet. I'm running 295/35ZR-19 FALKEN AZENIS RT660 SL's on the rears and 245/40ZR-18 FALKEN AZENIS RT660 XL on the front; OEM wheels. WOT at 4k in 1st they still hook assuming temps are >70 degrees; lateral grip is great as well. Can't speak for longevity as they only have 750 miles on them. $354 for the rears when I bought them last year.

I understand not wanting 2 sets of rear wheels/tires, but as time goes on, I think you'll find this to be your best option. I have 2 sets of rears for my C5, with the 10.5 wide wheels wearing 315-30-18 Michelin PS2s. The 9.5 originals had run flats for long trips. This worked so well that the tires on both got too old to run, although both were close to the wear bars. My .02.........
Just put a set of Michelin AS 4 Run Flats and immediately could tell the difference. Granted my tires were down quite a bit, but past inspection a few months back. but these seems quieter than I was expecting as this is first Run Flat I have owned. Like the tread pattern and looking forward to enjoying some cruising up to Harpers Ferry this Saturday for a white water raft trip.
Hopefully weather cooperates and can get some pics up in hills.
I ended up with the Michelin PS 4S. I wanted to go with all season tires, but availability wasn't there. So far I like them. Headed to the track tomorrow for my first day. It will be an easy day. I won't be pushing hard. I don't expect to be out in the cold much so I don't think the summer tire will be an issue.
