Default Tech 2 issues/ missing special features

Hey guys, I am having issues with my Tech 2 clone, its the VCX Nano a=plugged into my laptop. It seems that it is missing menus that other tech 2s (clones and handhelds alike) have. I am trying to perform a crankshaft position relearn and after going through the correct menus (2005->passenger car-> chevy-> Y-> Vehicle control systms-> special functions) I'm at a dead end. The only special functions available to me are BCM controls and door receiver controls. Per all the videos and forums I've watched and read, the relearn crankshaft position variation should be there. But its not. I've tried going to engine settings ((2005->passenger car-> chevy-> Y-> engine) but can't seem to find it there either. I'm struggling here. Appreciate any help.

Try using 2006 or 2007 model year…if you can get your hands on another bidirectional scan tool try that too.

No go for 2006 or 2007. I tried looking in 2004, crankshaft relearn was in the correct place however wrong engine. Then I tried finding an LS2 in the truck subcategories. Went through the steps of the crankshaft relearn but it failed saying "diagnostic faults"

There are issues with service active handling, BCM problems, and airbag lights but I am stumped on those issues as well. Could the "diagnostic faults" be due to it not being a truck?

I’d take the car to a shop and let them try it with their scan tool…they should be using a bidirectional scan tool and since it only takes a minute to do the procedure it shouldn’t be that much or just find someone that has one…never seen that fault so can’t help you there.

I normally would consider that option too. However my car is been at the dealership with their "certified Master Corvette technician" trying to fix these electrical Gremlins for months and I've wasted thousands of dollars on it. With no results. So I'm trying to come up with some more tangible solutions

North American > Diagnostics > 2005->passenger car-> chevy-> Y-> Vehicle control systms-> Computer /integrating systems > auto/manual > Module Setup > > Engine Control Module > Crankshft Pos. Variation Learn

Is this what you are looking for and what exactly is the issue you are trying to fix that nobody has helped you with? Did you change your crank shaft position sensor or motor or why are you wanting to use this option for an electrical issue?

I would look for an auto-electric shop in your area…they are better equipped to handle electrical issues.

The clone Tech2 Win software that VXDiag offers for download does not have the full functionality of the real Tech2 Win software, a real Tech 2, or a Chinese clone Tech2. As you have discovered.

Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. I contacted VXDiag right after I got my Nano and was told they know all about it, and "the engineers are working on it". That was a good 2 years ago.

So, I've ended up using my clone Tech 2 for my C6 and saving the Nano for late models that work with GDS2.

I know the software itself can be like working in a circus ! But it’s really all about how it’s installed and how you “use backward compatibility” rather then install their newest software updates.
once I figured out a path I was able to get my VXdiag Nano to show me the goods on my 08. Before I figured this out I only had partial “communication” with the vehicle. I was able to finally relearn the vin on my nav radio upgrade even though several people said “newest software doesn’t include this option”. It did. It’s mostly how you install and that you have the VX manager running in the background when you start the Tech2Win software.
just my 2 cents. … cheers 👍

Good to know it can be done, thanks. The next question is how? What is the correct way to install the software so that you have full functionality in Tech2 Win?

sorry for delay. Life can get busy some days.
here’s how I installed it to work on my current computer laptop.

Windows 7 Home premium. in 64 bit mode.
virus protection off.
i use mega.nz for all file downloads.

VX manager 1.8.4.0315
install … it will mention that you don’t have gsd2 installed.
download GSD2 next. Run the installer after unzipping.
connect VXDIAG nano to your USB.
after you are sure it’s installed the software for it,
start VX Manager.
update licence.
update firmware.
then click on VXDIAG at top right of window and update the VX manager software to 1.8.9.0601
this whole time it should show your VXDIAG nano connected obviously.
leave vx manager running
download tech2win 16.02.24
unzip and run auto installer.
mince it’s finally all done. You should be up and running … almost
this is where I went back to vx manager clicked on “Diagnostic”
makes sure the first two are installed.. the pass thru icon and the gm gds2/tsw. If you can see the install (it’s not greyed out) then install.
You should be okay now to pop the VXDIAG Nano into the ODB2 port and cycle your key to accessories.
depending on what your after you might have to start the engine.

Side note: this works on my 08 Base 2LT.
If full functionality is still not working for you the other alternative is to sign up for a short subscription to ACDelco because it also has a software package that you download that allows programming with the subscription while using the VXDIAG Nano.
I could not get there software to work on my old HP laptop because of memory issues.

hopefully this helps.
cheers.

Hi,

Out of curiosity, what the codes you're getting?

Hey CroOrange, I actually don't remember. Got that issue fixed. But the code it was throwing was crankshaft variation not learned. Or something to that extent.

I have the same operating system as TimboC6 has Windows 7 Home premium. in 64 bit mode.
virus protection off. I got the GDS2 software sent to me from the VXdiag tech support because that software I could not get to load correctly on any computer regardless of the operating system. So I went to the original computer with the operating system mentioned above and followed TimboC6's installation outline with the exception that I did not download, load the the earlier version of VXmanager and then upgrade to the current version as I already had the current revision he had listed and just loaded that. The issue I have when attempting to load the GDS2 software after the VXDiag software is I get the following message while it shows to be in the "Load....MDI Setup.exe" portion of the install it will give the error stated below and then abort that part of the down load and remove those specific files.Without that the software cannot communicate with the device.

" File 'C:Program Files (x86)\GM MDI Software\Dynamic Link Libraries\BVTX-VCI-Helper.dll' can not be found. Make sure the file is on target system or installed already."
I also have the firewall disabled as well.

I was able to install this on a 32 bit Windows Professional machine with no issues. On that machine I do not think all of the options in the Tech 2 program are showing up that a regular Tech 2 device has. In my case, I am not working on a corevette but this the best forum in regards to who discusses this tool, the transfer case module does not show up under the list of modules on my 2007.5 silverado duramax. is should be listed under the DIC section but I really on have two options, the engine and the transmission and I find nothing related to the TCCM under either of those.

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.

I wish I could ... it's literally been a while since I had anything to do with my Tech2 setup. I traded up to a C7 and my scanners are in a drawer in the shop sitting unused for over a year approx.....
so unfortunately I've forgotten the errors/trials etc I went through. Wish I had a better response. I do remember that I read at least 50 articles on slightly different procedures until I stumbled on the one that worked for me.
anyways.... hope you find your solution sooner than later 👍
