Hi guys,
Anybody out there have any idea on how to update the nav system in a 2012 corvette? I know there are other ways but I would like to use the one it came with. Right now it doesn't have any idea where it is, or me either for that matter.
You said you would like to keep the OEM unit. Most of us have ditched the OEM unit. Mainly for the ability to hook up a camera or two. Then you can have an aftermarket HU that can use cameras, and CarPlay, either wired or bluetooth. Once that gets hooked up you can use your favorite location system like WAZE, for example. I think the consensus is that the OEM nav system is pretty old tech, relying on a disc that is no longer supported by GM. AN upgrade that had a lot more pros than cons. That has been my experience since I switched out my HU with a Kenwood.
This is the latest nav update from GM (although this is a bootleg copy). This disk has map data from ~2015 and that's the best you can do with the original nav unit. There is no way to upgrade the software to something like a modern device using the original hardware.

Which unit did you buy? I am also thinking about replacing my stock NAV,
I just use a ProClip and run Waze on my phone for navigation (and Sirius XM or my Plex music library), although I already purchased the adapter kit from Crutchfield for a new head unit at some point. I've mostly driven the car with the top down since I've owned it, so I haven't needed cameras since there are no blind spots with the top down.
I got a Kenwood DDX6903S. At the time I got it there were no aftermarket radios to be found anywhere. I bought it used from a form member here and it works great. The hardest part was taking the console apart to get to it. Lots of write up here just do a search. It came with front and back cameras and the PAC interface adapter which you will need. I think I paid about $400 for all of it. But again, at the time buyers couldn't be picky since there were none around. as fast as they were posted here they were sold. I have since replaced all of the Bose speakers and taken out the center dash one. I am still not thrilled with the sound, and since all is new EXCEPT the Bose amp, I am thinking about that. I am not an audiophile by any means, but I have a 2015 Nissan truck and the sound is way better than what I was getting in the C6. The kenwood has wired AppleCar Play and I am not sure if a wireless one would be worth it. One of the things I have discovered is that every time songs are compressed, like from Pandora to my phone, then from my phone to the Head Unit the quality suffers. My understanding is that a wired Car play will sound better than the wireless, but that is just what I have heard. Something to keep in mind. The CarPlay itself was a great addition since I get the Waze, the pandora and whatever else is on the phone on the screen. My suggestion is to get a new unit with some of the bells and wistles and did't the old nav system itself.
