My searches are showing me much. So I had the dreaded fan connector melt, cut out connector and soldered wires together, now fan still doesn’t work. I’m getting PO480 Cooling Fan Output Circuit with a Tech2. Thinking fan module? The relay J fuse 25 ohms out like the others.
Also I will search for the module but if someone has any recommendations I’m listening. Thank you.
2009 A6 with a tune. Thanks.
Since you have a Tech 2 did you see if you can command the cooling fan from 0-100% ??…to check the control wire you’ll need an LED test light..there is low current flow on the PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) control wire so using a 12 volt test light with an incandescent bulb may not work…if you have the LED test light I can help you check that…so have you checked B+ and ground at the module ??…schematic is for my 2008 but it’s probably the same but I can check tomorrow…which relay J fuse are you referring to ???
Thank you for your response. I’m not sure what I can control with the Tech2, also car has a tune and tuner did adjust fan percentages a couple years ago, not sure if that would limit what I can do with the tech2
Again thank you for your help.
Also I do have a snap on test light, but it’s 12v 50mA.
So the B+ check, is that the same as M+ on this module? The fuse i was referencing is 25 under the hood, shows cooling fan. I bought new 30A relay to replace it.

With the Tech 2 if you select “output controls” you should be able to control the fan speed…the fan speed shouldn’t be higher than a 90% duty cycle…if your tuner changed it to 100% that’s probably why your connector melted…if looks like your test light is an LED…if it’s incandescent you can see a little bulb inside of it…this is the current flow on my fan…a little over 15 amps.
I’ll try that thanks. My tuner knows better than to exceed 90%.. I’ve been in touch with those guys over this issue. Since I threw that code. I replaced the relay 25, and already ordered a new fan control module, just in case hell all these parts are now over ten years old can’t hurt to replace them…..thanks again, appreciate your time.

My fuse 25 is a 60 amp J style fuse…did you mean a 30 amp fuse ??…better check your rating again…I’ll look at my module tomorrow…look at the schematic and compare to your module…you always want to check wiring before you condemn a module !!

You mean “fuse” 25 ??…you still want to check wiring before installing a new module but if you want to just change it go ahead….the testing is not difficult.
Maybe I’m not reading the lid of fuse box correctly, I thought these gray ones were 30amp. At least the replacement was. I will check wiring before installing module, don’t want to smoke that either.

The gray things are relays and not fuses…relays are not rated in amps but fuses are…there are no gray relays or any relays in the cooling fan circuit…below is my 60 amp fuse.
Ok I’m a dumb *** and was reading the lid wrong. Yes my 60 amp fuse is blown, I confirmed this with my multimeter. Doh.
Guess I won’t need that 220 dollar fan module after all……😂
OK great !!…that’s why you check the circuit first !!…I’d be careful where you buy these J style fuses from…a lot of this stuff is from China so I’d be wary…I’d pick up one at a dealership if I were you…probably inexpensive !!…Bussman fuses are a good aftermarket one.
Thank you sir. Yes I replaced the 60amp fuse and when I started the old girl up the fan came on instantly. I also canceled the order for the control module.
Will clear code tomorrow morning, garage is too hot now and I’m beat. Thanks again.
