Default Auto to manual conversion

So in a hypothetical sense what would be need to do a COMPLETE conversion. I was talking with a friend about this earlier as we own an automatic that we are looking to do something with. More of a just so we can say we did it kind of thing.

Love to do the same thing. I hope someone will chime in with some details instead of the common "just get a manual car answer"

Besides the obvious, it's going to require a fair amount of fabrication, you'll have to mount a clutch pedal, install the hydraulic lines, master cylinder, change the transmission out. I'd imagine even if you could do all the work yourself, you'd never recoup the investment

I don’t care about the investment so to speak as this is more of a something to do project. Not a change and resell deal. What’s stopping me is trying to find out if I need to change body harnesses and/or computers.

The transmission harness, engine harness, and body/ip harnesses have different part numbers on manuals and automatics. The BCM and ECM have the same part numbers, but I suspect BCM at least would require a reflash. The EBCM might too. GM's module programming software may fight you because you have an automatic VIN.

In the process of getting the parts together now. You pretty much need everything from the motor back. I wont say its bolt on necessarily but theirs no major difference in the body that would prevent any need to fabricate anything, you just basically need everything out of the manual car. Pedals bolt up, all that stuff will transfer over. The harness needs some modification I know but I can't say exactly what as I havent gotten that far yet. Idealy the easiest way would be to find a wrecked manual car on copart and just grab everything you need out of it. Tune will need to be corrected as well. Its doable just alot of work. The hole for the shifter is already there, the auto shifter mechanism sets in it. Maybe someone here can verify but I think the rear subframes are the same between manual and auto, i could be wrong on that though. I'm doing the piece it together as I find the parts deal so not in a rush.

I'd talk to RPM transmissions in Anderson, In. They seem to do a lot of manual to automatic conversions.
They may have all the parts and know how to convert either way.

Hey, did you ever complete the process of manual swapping the C6? I'm curious the total cost and what it entails, really not many write-ups on a c6 swap. I've done swaps on a few other vehicles, never a C6 though.

My guess is you will need a complete manual C6 car as a donor car to do it right. I would seek out something setting in a junk yard and start stripping parts.

i unfortunately have not, I have a lot of the stuff setting here but my main hold up has been finding a diff. I just havent been too pressed to do it but eventually it’ll happen.
