Default Leaking Coolant Help...

C6 Base ~45K miles. Saw a bit of coolant (teaspoon) on the floor. I just came in from out underneath it. This is my first stop. I did remove all the air cleaner plastics and have it up on the Quick Jack and have gotten a decent look around. I do see coolant sticky and liquid in a few place but not exactly where it's leaking from...I'm headed into the water pump, seems the most obvious....So I guess what I'm getting at here, Anybody know a Good YouTube or step by step here on CF to get into the Water Pump or something else like a hose or gasket I should be checking?
TIA!

I wouldn't rush to that conclusion. Clean everything well;, check connections. If it isn't more obvious in a few days, and you are losing coolant, you might consider a dye.
Does it have the original T connector in the line to the reservoir? I would also look at the radiator end tanks carefully.

Ok, I see online what you're talkin about (T connector), and I'll check the radiator good, Thanks!

That all looked ok. Most of the leaked coolant is on the pump housing and pullies. Thanks!

Yep, I will check into that, I think loan a tool at O'Reillys. It's lookin like the water pump tough.
Time to look for torq specs, belt routing...RockAuto looks to be the least expensive or O'Reilly's because they're nice people, 50 bux more(?) though...

All of the leakage seems to be on the righthand side:

This ones kind of confusing because it's up high by the throttle...

Thanks For The Help!

Oh Joy!.......So going in and changing the water pump you can get into A LOT of "While You Are There" replacements. Sooo, right now I've made up my mind just to replace the pump (with the one that comes with the gaskets and thermostat). I'm still not 100% sure it's the water pump, but sure enough to get into it. I will flush the system (similar to the Ranger) and clean the tank, it's not bad at all. I've always done a drain and fill at the Rad petcock every 2nd oil change. Time to get out there and bust my knuckles (thank goodness no more heat dome). Pump comes from Amazon in 5-7 days.....Thanks Amigos!

Ken, Thanks for your input. Threw me for a loop for sure...Spent about an hour/hour n half researching part numbers. My part ordered a few days ago, eta this Monday or Tuesday.
2009 Part Number off my leaky Water Pump (Just the Pump less Thermostat and Housing ): 12604630 (GM, ACDelco no longer use this number).
2005-2008 Water Pump w/thermostat and housing, your Part Number: 12710208.
2009-2013
Water Pump w/thermostat and housing: 19180610. The one I ordered.

Naw, but really this is Good in case somebody else with a leak stumbles a cross this...and I came across on Corvette Forum where some guys might have talk about the slight differences already, inlet/outlet diameter or pipe connection bends, not exactly sure... I'm hungry. I'll post back latter...

Sorry I gave you the wrong part #..My 2008 has a LS2 pump it changed in 2009...Same bolt pattern but the rad hoses would have to be changed.

It is most likely a water pump seal leaking. It happened to mine at 30K miles. I used a coolant pressure tester to find the leak. Finally got to see coolant dripping from the pump seal area.
replaced, and now 125K miles and no issues since.

Epilogue: Radiator Pressure Tester is a Real Good Idea, "Rent-a-Tool" O'Reilly's . Pump to pressure written on reservoir cap (mine is 18psi). If it's a slow leak it might take ~ an hour to make itself somewhat obvious. Seeing exactly where a leak is behind the pully is impossible but you'll get a good idea when you see fluid wetness/drips below Water Pump pully. All tracer dyes I saw said Not for GM btw, but you do have a Very Good shot by chasing the coolant wetness. Oh, and yes, check all hoses and clamps, but if the pumps wet it's a pretty good chance it's the pump. ACDelco pump for a 2009-2013 Base Corvette with thermostat, thermostat housing and gaskets cost me just under $200 total (Amazon). That's the least expensive I could find.
Besides a regular 3/8" drive 10mm with extensions. a deep set helps a lot for that little bit of clearance on some of the (6) Water Pump bolts.
Besides all that there's a few YouTube videos that give a general idea.
1.(6) 10mm Water Pump bolts 22ft/lbs
2.(2) 15mm Belt tensioner bolts 32ft/lbs

Also Did a Flush Before I put the New Water Pump as per C6ToGo 2014 post below:
" Change coolant every 5 years or 150,000 miles, which ever comes first.
Buy 2 gals Prestone Dex Cool (Walmart) and 6 gals distilled water. I used 5 gals of distilled water this year
and flushed it twice. I think three flushes would have been better.

1) Drain coolant (drain plug is on passenger side). Approx. 8 qts out of 12.6 qts will actually drain.
2) Pull Surge Tank and clean out crud. Refill surge tank to the neck with distilled water.
3) Start engine, idle 4 min
4) Top off surge tank
5) Rev engine at 2000-2500 rpm for 2 more min. (temp should reach ~200 F)
6) Shutoff engine, cool for 20 minutes
7) Repeat steps 1-6 until fluid drains clear (2-4 flushes)
8) Refill with 6.3 qts Dex Cool (it's a slow process) and then top off with distilled water.
9) Repeat steps 3-5, take test drive, refill as necessary with distilled water.
10) Dispose of your old antifreeze at a recycling center."

I got all this done for about $275
Less the flush, the Water Pump swap took about 2.5-3 hours and I'm no mechanic with No power tools.

Good Luck to the knuckle busters and Thanks to the guys that have been there and posted here!10 10-21-2014-21-2014
