Yesterday after stopping to fill up I started the car and got a check engine light. I was 1 mile from home so off I went when I got home I hooked up my scanner and found a P0335 code. I had no drivability issues on the way home. I have read about other people having issues with the tack reading bouncing around but I had no issues. The car is an 08 with LS3 and 130,000 miles on it so I am leaning toward changing the crank position sensor and possibly the cam position sensor but I don't know where they are located on the engine. I have also read about a relearn needing to be done but I can not find the instructions to complete the relearn after the sensors are replaced. Any information would be great. Thanks
Does the engine turn over slowly when starting? If so, that is probably the reason for the code, and your sensors are fine. So, if it turns over slowly, make sure your battery and charging system are all up to snuff.
Thanks for the reply. The car cranks just like always and is quick to start no dragging on the starter Battery is 2 years old charging system shows 13.1 at idle and 14.4 when driving. In all the years I have owned the car this is the first check engine light i have had. I hope my luck is not running out.
Just for grins.......check the ground point underneath the battery. Sometimes there may be corrosion, and the car will start okay, but those gremlins can show up. I understand it's a Crankshaft Position Sensor Code....before you change that sensor, sometimes it may be the connections at the starter. Check those and the under the battery ground first If they are fine then it's the sensor...... and let us know what you find...
Crank sensor is above the starter…always best to use an OEM sensor and check the wiring too…if a bad wire no sensor will fix it…a factory level bidirectional scan tool is needed to do a crank relearn…any shop can do this and takes a few minutes…no need to replace cam sensor.
First off I would like to thank everyone for the help. It turned out to be the crank position sensor intermittent fault. I cleared the code p0335 and drove the car for two days before it came back this time this time the tac stuck at 1000 RPM until i reved the motor then the tac moved. After breaking off the on of the studs at the manifold flange and spending 2 hours removing the broken piece I picked up a new delco sensor and installed it. When I started the car it ran like crap so out came the scanner again after doing the crank relearn I did the throttle relearn then took her out for a test drive. I can't tell you how much better the car runs. It showed a bunch of codes in the ECU,BCM,TCM, anything else it could find 41 in all. and nothing turned on the check engine light until the crank sensor. Since i have only had this car for 1 year I never knew how quick it could be when running right, Thanks again for all that helped.
