I have a 2011 GS 6-speed . I'm going to install Kooks 1 3/4 headers and catted x pipe. Before I get it tuned, is an air intake necessary? From what I have read on this forum, the stock air filter will handle 600 hp.
I am trying to get a real cost on adding headers to my car. A reputable company near me has a header package I'm looking into. Halltech air intake, headers, mighty mouse catch can , NGK TR55 spark plugs , fluids , baseline tune, full street dyno tune , 160 THERMOSTAT.
Trying to cut cost with the air intake.
I need that mentality. Oh, you're going to need a starter heat shield, a tunnel heat shield or your interior will get to 500 degrees. Spark plug shield or your wires will melt. 2000 degrees under your hood. Yours clutch will melt.
I would think about any other mods you might wanna do such as a cam, dyno tunes are spendy around me (~$800) so it’s good to do fewer of them
or just not tune now because he is just doing exhaust work. Every single day someone mentions headers, tunes come up. It is my biggest pet leave that people think they need tunes for headers
The reason I 'm leaning towards Kooks is for the fitment. From what I have read on this forum, Kooks fit the best.
Go with Kooks 1 3/4 and Hi Flo cats and mid pipe. The fit is perfection and the 1 3/4 are best for a street LS3. I'm also getting one of the NEW factory fit Halltech heat shrouds that fit the factory LS3 intake with no mods, keeps IATs lower.

Search/Research this forum for threads on best header size for a street driven LS3, and mixed in will be threads and posts on drag race LS3 that also use 1 3/4 and have quicker E.T.'s than cars running 1 7/8 headers on the drag strip in high HP builds. Then make your choice.

thank you! Too much bs touted by people that think bigger is better with no data.
